Your D is fine. She’s a National Merit Commended Scholar. Like my son, they just have to wait to see if they made NMSF. If they are NMSF, all they have to do is to take the SAT and score high enough in order to be NMF, plus an application process of course.
Unfortunately, her ACT score matches her SAT so no bump. She also preferred the SAT. Fingers crossed that Commended for VA is 309. Ugh! I will be so sad for her if she misses validating by one point.
Sorry 209
Unfortunately, commended is the same for the entire country. It doesn’t vary by state. If she makes NMSF, I hope she can score a high enough test score.
Unfortunately the Commended cutoff is 210…
Good luck! I think she will make it.
Anybody have intel on the Semifinalist cutoffs? I got 1470/220 in NC so a little nervous
It seems like a 220 should be good in NC, but actual cutoffs won’t be out for a 2-3 weeks still.
You won’t know officially until the day it’s released. According to Compass Education Group website , which tracks these annually, the predicted range for NC is 216-220 with 218 the most likely estimate.
DD26
What about a 1480 PSAT (720 RW, 760 Math) and a 1530 SAT (750 RW, 780 Math; December 2024)
220 based on PSAT
226 based on SAT (I think)
The cutoff is different by state. I think Compass Prep’s predictions are generally considered accurate. Like Momofthree24 said, official cutoffs aren’t out yet.
My daughter goes to a boarding school, and I’m told that in those cases, the cutoff is determined by the school.
According to compass:
Boarding schools are grouped by region. The cutoff for a given region is the highest state cutoff within the region.
cC won’t let me post the link but you can google it.
I found it. Thank you.
The PSAT is pretty accurate. Her score translates into a 1540 SAT, and what she got 1530 (1540 superscore) a month later on the Dec SAT.
Does anyone know if students could find out earlier than 11Sep? or if that is the earliest?
I had read somewhere that the HS counselors get to know in “late Aug” and they informally share it but now all I see is in 10 or 11 Sep…
TIA
I think letters probably just got mailed to school principals so usually soon after Labor Day weekend information on cutoffs starts to leak out. I believe compass prep usually is good at getting this info prior to the press release date (Sept 10 this year), and compass prep will update their website with the actual cutoffs as soon as they get the info, so maybe by Tuesday or sometime next week the cutoffs will be known. If your kid is pretty sure they made the cutoff and is just waiting for the letter, your principal or counselor may or may not give the students their letter prior to release date. Some will give it to them earlier and some wait until press release date.
Sept 10 is the day that the information can be shared publicly. So, newspapers, etc can publish a congrats article then. But the letters with the semi-finalists are mailed to principals around now. Kids will start to find out soon from principals who let them know they’ve made it. And parents who homeschool get their kid’s letter as they are the principal. Reddit and Compass Prep will have info as these letters arrive next week. After Sept 10, if you haven’t heard you can call NMSC and ask.
CA Cutoff yet? Reddit says some letters are out?
Predicted is 222
Schools have received letters already??
