National merit????

Haha, nice.

Where do you designate a school as your first choice? I figured it was just on that information sheet where they send your info to two colleges. Where can I designate it as my first choice?

You should have gotten a yellow postcard that you fill out and send in once you’ve made your decision. I think it came with the original packet a looong time ago, can’t remember. But the yellow postcard lets you designate your first choice school.

I didn’t get a yellow postcard. I only got a letter that let me designate two schools to recieve my information.

oh, then i dunno. I think I remember getting the yellow postcard with the packet that said you advanced to semifinalist standing and then had to apply for finalist. Sorry if i’m no help.

Oh, the semi-finalist packets havn’t been sent yet I don’t think.

ohhh you’re a junior, yeah they don’t come until later for you.

Has everyone else gotten letters from their schools?

I got a 225 on the PSAT, but still haven’t gotten anything from my school. Is it just late or something?

It’s definitely late, and don’t worry, you made everything.

Thanks HiWei, I’ll keep studying

that letter only means you are high scorer, i think. so you couldj ust be a high scorer or later you’ll find out if you were commended, or a semi.

that’s annoying. that means less time to do app, huh?

the school wouldn’t screw me over…would they?

btw: thanks HiWei. it made me feel better. :)

so, the high score notification for juniors isnt out yet for this year? it says april on the web site, and we’re running low on april…

If you get a letter saying you’re in the top 50,000 and send that letter to two schools of your choice, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the schools are going to reply (I didn’t hear any notification or anything from the two schools I sent that letter to). Also, being a Finalist doesn’t mean an automatic ticket to your top choice school. I’m a Finalist, but didn’t get into my #1.

Yea, being a finalist doesnt really mean much unless you get money. Colleges dont “care” about NM that much… I mean its something else to put on app but its like as good as like good SAT score.

:)

Well, that really depends on what context you’re talking about. When you’re applying to the Ivies and other top schools, what you said is right - the NM distinction doesn’t mean very much. But at many smaller schools and state schools, the NM distinction is quite important and will quite often lead to offers of scholarship money and honors programs.

Yea, sry thats what I meant. :)
