I’m sticking up for UMass (as an alum of last century). In the 1980’s UMass certainly was a party school…but also a pre-med school (one friend) and a pre-law school (my wife as well as a good friend) and also a pre-MBA school (UMass education got me into a top 10 MBA program)…etc. etc.

Large universities often give students more options than small LAC’s, good and bad (including mass consumption of whatever.) As in all schools, you seek your own level and you will find it or move on. My crew all got quite a lot out of the school, including the parties!

However, when going to UMass today, it is much more tame with most activities happening off campus. Its become more of a sports oriented school than I would ever have dreamed.

And, may I humbly suggest, UMass WILL be a destination for many of our Smithies…
