Hi Cottonwood- Thursday night Phillies beat the Cubs. 9-8 I think.

no issues at Midway ![]()
G8 was moved to Camp David.

The nurses heal the world rally in Daley Center was peaceful.

Today there is a rally in the Horner Park area noon to two, to protest the closing of mental health clinics. Walking from the brown line at Irving Park to Horner, and maybe to the mayor’s house.

Huge military helicopters flying in and out of DuPage Airport… weird.

^^Probably the G8 leaders arriving.

My S (Navy Spec.Ops) was to work for the Secret Service (security) for the NATO Summit but got pulled off the job to due to a training conflict. He was looking foward to going to Chicago. He’s now assigned to work the Democratic National Convention in Sept. which will be an even bigger security task.

I don’t follow many on twitter, but I do follow D’s school newspaper. They’ve been live tweeting the protests all weekend. Pretty exciting stuff, but glad D is staying away. (I am very aware that I am getting only one side of the story [pro-protester] but it’s very interesting to see that side of it.]

going to use noise cannons to break up protest ~ oy

I heard the noise cannons were not actually used.

Alwaysamom was right, there was an anarchist group there yesterday.

Best t-shirt: One percent of the Muppets are eating ninety-nine per cent of the cookies.

chicago remains the city that works.

Nothing happened. Brilliant move putting them over at McCormick. Nothing disrupted in the business section of the city. Big so what?

I hope we never have another one of these things here, again. I prefer we remain “fly-over” and can take our coffee and kindles on the Metra.

^ditto poetgrl

Yes, kudos to the officers and all the peaceful protesters. Sorry it was so hot for everyone on Sunday. There was another peaceful protest yesterday. Those Metra rules were relaxed earlier.

I liked the pictures from Soldiers Field. And the Sox won all three games.

My mom told me the workers at the Shedd Aquarium had a three-day sleep-over there because despite the fact that it was closed, the fish still needed to be fed every day!

Yalemom: What about the baby dolphin? Did it arrive yet?
