And telling the Admissions Committee about your homelessness won’t follow you; once you start at your new school your fellow classmates and your teachers won’t know unless you choose to tell them. Frankly, though, not only do I think you have nothing to be ashamed about, but I find it inspiring that you’ve managed to find your way and you’re committing yourself to improving your life. Best of luck to you. Oh, and I’d definitely get that LOR from the person you work.

No advice to give, I just wanted to say how much I admire you rising above your circumstances like this and have no doubt you will be successful wherever you end up. Best of luck!
I don’t think anyone else noted this but as a transfer student I don’t believe your SAT scores really matter. They will look at your current community college GPA. Since you already have a lot on your plate I don’t thing bringing up your SAT scores needs to be a priority. Can other experienced posters confirm?
@seashell98 You are a talented, wonderful writer who has overcome tremendous challenges. You have a good GPA and SAT score. Why are you planning to apply to “ a non-selective” SUNY school? This is an opportunity to aim really high. You can do it, especially with a higher SAT. You will be eligible for application fee waivers. Why not apply to the Ivies and selective private colleges and universities that provide large amounts of institutional aid? They have a lot of money and resources available to them and would probably be most likely to find additional grants to help you with your cost of living while in college. Do you need to stay in NY? Do you know what you would like to study? Career plans? Please let us know - I am sure many of us would have other ideas for you. Keep up the good work!
@1stTimeThruMom — I definitely am applying to multiple state schools and looking for private ones to apply to! I emphasized “non selective SUNYs” because I am not sure how the admissions process will turn out. So I want to make sure I apply to some state schools that have a very good chance of admitting me. Like Buffalo State College, SUNY—Fredonia, SUNY—Plattsburgh, or SUNY—Potsdam. I am planning on applying to more some other schools in addition to some SUNY/CUNY schools, but I don’t know which ones yet— I’m in the process of figuring that one out!
I would like to major in French and pursue a teaching certification while in school, I don’t have to stay in NY, and my goal after school is to work as a teacher.
