ne honors/aid

firstly, northeastern calculates the gpa according to their own system, right?

ok and they say top 10% of applicants are considered for the honors program.
what if the grades/gpa are great, EC’s are great, but SAT score is not so great. (2050, not in top 10%)

and how much aid do you think i could get with the (verY) general stats above?

how do you know a SAT score of 2050 isn’t in the top 10% of all applicants? It’s probably different every year and you don’t know the SAT scores of the incoming freshman class. So wait it out. You might have a good shot. Also, I don’t think ECs are considered for admittance into the honors program. Just academic record, SAT/ACT, and GPA.

Here’s something more to consider. If you don’t get into the honors program your first semester, you can always apply to be in it for the second semester.

@highachiever, i mean i’m sure the scores are in the same ballpark all years, :/

Well, Northeastern doesn’t exactly have a very good rep for Aid, “Average Percentage of Need Met” is 59%. That is their reported average. If FA is a big concern for you, either need-based aid or merit-based aid, I would look for schools where that Percentage is running around 85%-95%. Schools that meet 100% of need are very difficult to gain acceptance to & there are very few!

Actually Northeastern has the largest merit-aid programs of all the schools I looked at when applying. Even non-honors students can receive sizeable scholarships. The issue for FinAid is need-based, which Northeastern doesn’t really do too much of- but that has nothing to do with being good enough to get into honors. If it’s need-based aid, it doesn’t matter what your stats are.

@OP- check out the last post on the 1st page in this thread…

That kid had a 2010 and got accepted into the honors program. While some people, in the 2100s/2200s weren’t accepted. Granted that was for 2008 and he could be lying, but still, anything can happen. You don’t have to necessarily give up hope. On the NU website they didn’t state anything about ECs, but SAT scores definitely isn’t the only thing considered. If that were the case then why are some people with higher scores getting rejected? I still think you might have a chance.

And it’s true that you can always reapply later in the year too. good luck!

*lol I sound like some motivational speaker. :-P

yeah, i really, really appreciate it ! thanks so much. :))

honestly, i got a 2070 SAT and had a high school gpa of like, 3.7 or something, and i got in with the highest scholarship of the second tier of scholarships, which is for the top 25%, so my scholarship was (According to my calculations) for the top 13.5% of the accepted class. Meaning, i was only 3.5% away from honors.
However, being here for 7 weeks already i’m seeing not much difference in the honors kids and other kids (in fact no one talks about it) other than them living in IV (And being so far away from everything they never hang out with anyone but themselves).
At least, that’s what I’ve seen. It doesn’t seem to matter, i’ve heard the honors kids complain about it basically.
