Again, I second the Jesuit School recommendations. There are several GEMS in that crowd: Holy Cross, BC, Fordham, any of the Loyola colleges- including New Orleans…which is a gorgeous campus adjacent to Tulane, and has some simply amazing professors there and the ONLY School of Music at a Jesuit college; Creighton, Santa Clara, Gonzaga, Seattle University, St. Louis University.

Also University of San Diego is an awesome school. Its diocesan Catholic, with a stunning campus overlooking the ocean.

There are lots of choices for you and they seem to match what you are looking for…some intellectual rigor, excellent programs, but also a really good time.

My kid is at Fordham and LOVES it. Supremely challenged (honors program), but also a very holistic approach to college, a gorgeous campus, lots of fun (U2 on campus last March), club sports are HIGHLY competitive there if you have an interest in getting out on the field or the court.

You have great stats, you are very well rounded, you seem really well balanced…not too nerdy and not a party animal. You will be fine.

Tulane: I think you have a pretty decent chance at Tulane. Its all about demographics. Immediately after Katrina they had a hard time finding kids wanting to go there, despite the fact the University was relatively unscathed being uptown. Now, its a different picture and its becoming a hot school again. I would go ahead and apply. But I also think that its neighbor Loyola New Orleans may offer you better money, and you can take classes at both schools I have heard.

Fordham’s financial aid is like a lot of schools. Its adequate, depending on your circumstances. They give, seemingly, better packages to kids they are hot after. I prefer their Rose Hill-main campus in the Bronx. Gorgeous gothic architecture, immediately adjacent to the New York Botanical Gardens and Zoo. Its history faculty is simply amazing. And they had 14 Fulbright Scholars last year at Fordham. They are very well connected for graduate programs (faculty ties to the Ivy League and Columbia, NYU.) You fit their profile very nicely. My kid knows several students from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky at Fordham.

If they accept you, it means you’re important to them. Though I don’t know if Fordham admissions are “need blind” or not. For merit-based scholarships, they will look at how competitive you are against other desirable applicants.
