I have an attached 3rd party battery charger that also serves as a protective case. My iPhone battery would not last a day, and the Apple Store actually suggested something similar to below. I LOVE it. It is now about 18 months old. When new, I could go 5 days before the remote battery needed recharging. Now, it lasts about 3 days. (I’m a light phone user, however).
I would gladly keep my current phone, except many of the APPS I use or would like to use, will either no longer update or I cannot install (because the ios will no longer update).
The main downside is the added weight, but it was actually not that much different from the newer larger phones.
H just got an iPhone 17 pro- we ordered at AT&T store and it took 2.5 weeks to get in. He was lucky to do a trade in on an iPhone 10 ($350) but the offer is not available anymore. It is larger than my iPhone 15 pro but he likes it. The AT&T store still does not have any in stock except for the first day!
Any experience getting a new battery for an iphone?
Still loving my iphone 12 mini. It is almost 5 years old, but it’s a great size for me - always in my pocket. Alas, it now has battery max capacity 77%. Sometimes shows yellow on the the battery icon (top right of screen). Per link in settings, I could make an appointment at Apple store to get a new battery for $89. Will they do it at the store while I wait?
DH and I both have SEs and never have a problem. Our plan is with At&T; also have never had a problem. Our previous plans were with other phones and Verizon; a curse on them forever and ever.
I have called At&T and asked them to confirm that whatever plan we have is the best price they will offer, and at least twice they have just given me a better plan. That being said, we barely use our phones (DH’s is in a lockbox at work 8 hrs a day) so the usual things don’t apply to us.
I was going to say, I hope so. I can’t imagine it would take more than 10 min if someone knew what they were doing. But according to AI, you might want to call first to make sure they have your battery in stock first.
I’m a hundred miles from the nearest Apple Store so I’m sure I dropped it off, went to lunch and picked it back up.
The only thing to think about is how long your phone will be supported or upgradable. My daughter upgraded from her 13 to a 17 because she could still get a deal from Verizon. Which would not happen with an older phone according to her.
I know I upgraded because my phone wouldn’t be supported anymore. Had to pay full price for a new phone. Not sure what the different providers deals are.
I also loved my iPhone mini, but the charge would not last a full day. Last spring I took it to the Apple Store and to my surprise they said a battery change would take 3 hours (because they do more than “just” a battery change) and be $89. They also told me a mini was not planned for last year, and that the minis would not be supported for too many more years. They said they have so many customers who ask for new minis. I had the battery changed there anyway. The charge lasted longer but still not a full day. In October I traded it in for a full size new iPhone, which didn’t cost much thru ATT. The features on my new iPhone are very noticeably better and the battery life lasts much more than a day. I still would give some of the new features up for a smaller size iphone, but that’s not a choice.
@jym626 - seeing this very late. But we recently switched all our phones to US Mobile (got the annual plan for 3 of the 4 lines) and so far, everything has been working well. They offer three different networks - they have funny names for them, but they are truly the major networks AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Customer Support is also very responsive.
@Colorado_mom Would something like the link below work? When I went to the AppleStore, the sales person actually suggested something similar (different company for my phone (6s). I LOVE it. It was dropping to 3 days between charges of the attached battery, but now back up to 5-6 days per charge. (light user).
I have not yet replaced my phone, but most of the apps no longer work due to it’s age, and older iOS which I cannot update. I believe the 12 mini will not be supported for much longer as well, so I was considering a used 13 mini. Just procrastinating since the phone is fine, storage is fine, battery is fine, and they have no plans for a newer mini. The ONLY reason I need to upgrade is due to planned obsolescence.
Thanks for your helpful feedback. I will keep in mind for the future. For now, no crisis mode. But I may go ahead and get a new battery soon since I love my 12 mini, and I worry that someday Apple will not have new batteries available.
MORE DETAILS:
So normally the battery indicator is only yellow when under 20% left. Yesterday I was alarmed when it stayed yellow after the charge was done, but per google checks that may be normal (til you go back an manually turn off the low battery mode). Today all seem seems normal again, white battery indicator. So I am just back to dealing with my bau old-battery minor inconvenience, though I now know from checking settings that max capacity is down to 77% (and there is a link from “Battery Health and Charging” settings to local service centers, which perhaps was always there).
NOTE - I did call local Apple tech support, which started with by “talking” with an automated system. (LOL, then when on hold they let me pick what type of music.) The helper was in Canada, worked with me to remotely run a diagostic. Said battery is “depleted”, “beyond expected life” (perhaps that is only based on age = 4.5 years”, “not recharging to full performance”. It’s not clear what the diagnostic showed beyond the 77% reading. She was not sure how long the repair takes, but “not long”. Can do walk-in or make reservation.
Hmm - have you found a carrier that actually works on the cruise ships? I haven’t come across one. We usually use the ship’s wifi while we are out at sea and then a country specific esim while we are in port.
One of the benefits I saw with the US Mobile plan we got was that it included international data, calling and texting. Was a big help on our last cruise to Spain and Portugal - didn’t have to get the international e-sim.
One of the reasons we’ve stuck with T-Mobile is that it has free international texting and slow WiFi. S travels a ton so we can at least text him wherever he is!
We have t-mobile. On our recent Mediterranean cruise, I ended up putting an international plan on both of our phones. My fil was ill and although we didn’t anticipate it, he passed away while we were on the cruise. It was quite a shock.
My bil called on our sea day for an hour and a half. We have iPhones, the call was an internet call.
All of our calls were covered, on shore and at sea. Plus we had extra data.
I probably wouldn’t have worried that much, but it was very nice to have since we did have quite a few calls to make.
To note, our phones were on airplane mode when at sea. Once my husband forgot, he got a notification that any calls would be $5.99 per minute.
