Need a vacation rental in San Diego in early August--advice?

Oh sure, it could rain in December, no guarantees; the average is six days with rain in that month. I guess if you haven’t lived in the midwest or northwest, that might be considered a rainy month? I would not call that “a lot of rain” or a reason not to plan a trip in December. Average high 65, average low 48.

There was rain forecasted last year for X-mas but all my pictures for a ten day period included blue skies. B-)

I guess having had major property damage to my home from the December storms of 2010 makes me blanch a little when folks say December rains in Southern California aren’t too bad!

I guess those dates don’t matter now, however, just for reference, I checked Flip Key for 3 bedroom+ houses/condos. Found many listings in San Diego over that time, starting at $250night, most less than 1K/night. Really nice places. I like Flip Key, they are really responsive and reliable so far, with plenty of properties.

I am deciding to stay away from Airbnb. I know many people like them, however, when I was looking at reviews for properties I was looking at, I kept seeing just the phrase, “Cancelled by host”, with no comments. When I googled their host cancellation policy, it was shocking. Very little penalty for the host to cancel for any reason. They can do it repetitively, for little to no fees. People were saying that they found out their reservation was cancelled ON THE DRIVE OVER to the property, or the day of. It sounds like people will list on several different sites, and if they get a better price, just cancel your reservation. Apparently you can’t even give them a negative review for this, because they won’t let you review if you haven’t stayed at the property. One lady had booked a home in SF for a large group, and the host pretended that they were cancelling because of massive construction in the neighborhood. They cancelled them on the same day, and when they drove there to look at the “massive construction”, it was a nice, quiet neighborhood. It just sounds really sleazy what the hosts can do, with all the protection for them, and not for the guests.

Marilyn, yes I will do that.
Interesting that Airbnb is having a huge crack down in Iceland. The issue is whether the owner has a license.
It is causing a lot of trouble for the big tourist season of July and August.
Some owners are trying to say that the renter will not be effective because the rental is in a small village.
The government has outlined very strict rules for those who have a license.

Huge crackdown here along the beach communities of Tampa Bay. The small inns and licensed B&B’s pay their taxes and the Airbnb’s do not and take business away from them. There are no regulations for Airbnb’s and many of the renters have been less than desirable in behavior and in numbers.
