Need advice - EPGY, CTY really gifted programs?

Any idea why this thread was moved? I thought it was relevant in the Parent’s Forum?

I assume it’s because the OP’s D is too young to be considering college.:)

I echo glido’s comments on peers. Life changing is exactly how my kids described CTY. This is not to say that it was all easy. Both went through that bad stretch in the first week of the program after 7th grade when they felt they were the stupidest kid in the program, in tears by Friday evening. Fast forward only a week to the following Friday and they were fine. They had come to grips with the idea that as bright as they might be on home turf, there are lots and lots of bright, and brighter, people. But in the end it didn’t matter. Now another fast forward for one of them to an Ivy college, and it was no surprise in Freshman year to be just in the middle of the pack; been there and done that at CTY. That Freshman shock of not being best is seriously hard for kids who have always been number 1. An early experience in the middle school time-period is a lot easier to manage than in Freshman year of college.

I’d second the HoagiesGifted website. That site is a gold mine of information for the gifted student. Spend some time browsing through the site and you can find links to many additional resources.
