Bill, I’m going tomorrow to try Oticons. I’ve been using Siemens/Signia for 2 decades, but my audiologist is selling Resound and Oticon. I took the Resound home and the hearing function was very good, but the TV streaming and phone Bluetooth was horrendous. Like listening to a gramophone vs a Bose speaker with my signia’s.
I told her no. So she’s ordered the Oticon. I’ve read it has great TV streaming and Bluetooth capabilities. What is your opinion?
Having a good audiologist is key. I love mine and the Phonak hearing aids she gave me. My hearing loss is moderate on one side and mild on the other. My audiologist was clear that about 50% of the people with my type of hearing loss are helped by hearing aids so I feel very lucky
I also have oticons. Got them last july. I hope they are the latest model. I can’t recall. M audiologist is a personal Friend and has been trying to get me to
Like these ear molds she had made for me. But one hurts and the other makes me
Feel Like I am Wearing earplugs. So she is sending them Back for fine tuning.
My sister didn’t like her Resounds either. They helped her hear and understand her college students better when she was teaching, but for the rest of normal, daily life not so much. After she retired, she switched to Phonak, which was a big improvement. She’s now considering switching again to Oticon, which were her first hearing aids many years ago.
My husband bought a new pair of airpod pro3. I borrowed them, and it was pretty easy to run a quickie ear test. Similar conclusions as my recent audiologist test (which I realize would be MUCH more precise) - minor hearing loss, more so at higher frequencies.
Did a quick test at home using as hearing aid. With two, my own voice sounds odd. May trying using one (or both) pods someday when we go out for group dinner (lots of background noise).
Having your own voice sound odd is not unusual. Give it some time to see if your ear adjusts to it. If there is an adjustment for high (sharp) and low (bass), that might help because the distortion might be due to too much of one or the other.
The Sony hearing devices have a built in automatic correction for the sound of your own voice, which is one of the things which makes them a superior instrument.
I’m doing well with the new oticons, tv steaming is great. Phone Bluetooth volume needs to be turned up or something, I have it at its highest, but the tone sounds good.
I’m hearing well, but my own voice is too loud which is making me speak quieter according to DH. Follow up is this week, so she can tweak it.
My audiologist wants me to use these hard domes. I hate them. They hurt. And I feel Like I am in a tunnel. She has sent them back yet again and I will give them One more try but I really don’t like them
They Audi is probably trying to occlude all outside sound from getting into your ear. I’ve gone through the same thing and you can get used to it. Mu Audi uses ear molds which are custom fitted to your ear and therefore feel more comfortable. She is so sold on the effectiveness of these that she routinely uses them with all her patients. I wonder if your Audi would consider that approach?
I have been trying the molds. She keeps trying to have them shaved down but they hurt. My bad when I used the word domes. I went BACK to the domes b/c the molds hurt. My son’s MIL couldn’t tolerate the molds either.
Okay, I get it now. My Audi would say that the problem is that the molds don’t fit and that’s why they’re hurting you. She would then repeat strong textthe process and get a new mold. I have my current ones and I had them on another pair about 7 years ago. In neither case did they hurt. The problem isn’t you. My guess is that the fabricator did a bad job in making them or that something went wrong when they put the silicone putty in your ear to create a cast from which to make the mold. I’d give it another try. If at first you don’t succeed, try again. They’re not supposed to hurt.strong text
She had a student there when she made the original casts with the putty so maybe it was that. I will see what the latest repair does but if I cant tolerate these I am done.
