Need help in talking the robotics Masters degree at CMU

Maxx,
You’ll want to go to the CC Discussion Home and scroll down to the thread on Graduate School-- there you can get some more information on applying to grad school in the US and answers to your specific questions on converting the British GPA to the US GPA (many similar postings already in place and I’m sure you’ll find an answer to your ?s in the Grad school thread).

This particular Carnegie thread is mainly for Carnegie Mellon undergrads.

That said, CMU has one of the most (if not the most) prestigious programs in Robotics in the US (MIT a close second). You can earn two different types of Masters in Robotics (links below0 – one technical and a newer program also technical but including more business/management courses as well. A Doctoral program in Robotics is also offered where you can apply for direct admission to this degree program.

Mechatronics is one of 4 required core courses for the MS degree, plus 4 electives and a thesis. That course is cross listed with the ECE and MechE departments – although oddly, these three courses list separate pre-reqs.

For specific admissions requirements and information, I strongly recommend contacting the department directly-- the first link provided below has the contact information, including admissions requirements. The deadline is strict (at least they write that on the page) and is December 15. You may need to wait another year if you have not yet taken a GRE. This is likely true for all US programs, where admissions mid-year is not a typical approach for graduate school.
