@NEPatsGirl buy the dress whenever you find THE one you like. Then stop looking. Otherwise, you might have buyers remorse if something “better” comes along.
I bought my dress 7 months before DDs wedding but really, I had been looking for 18 months and just hadn’t found anything I really liked a lot. If I had…I would have purchased it way sooner.
@NEPatsGirl, I really like all 3! The one from the Sundance catalog, that’s so pretty. I like the bell sleeves on number 3 but I think it would look nice to take them off also.
Hard decisions, I would order all 3 and see what looks best on you
Unfortunately the one (other than my original) that I like the best gets horrible reviews so need to take that off the list. I did come up with these two though, not petite but could be hemmed. Would love opinions. They kind of remind me of Jackie O. Blue one might be too fitted (it says stretch).
I’m the opposite. Love the pink don’t love the blue. The pink is a great price. Dillard’s has same dress for 199.99.
For both MOG and now MOB I ordered a lot of dresses. For me the key was easy to return. If I found a dress I liked I searched the actual style and oftentimes was able to find it at Nordstrom, Newman Marcus or Saks. I and my friend who was recently MOB found that some of the designer websites had narrow return policies.
I think you have a lot of great suggestions. Have you tried on various shapes of dresses to know what works for your body?
The hardest part of picking out things from pictures is that the models are size 2…not size 10. You really need to try these on…so order and try on…and then return the ones that don’t work.
I would probably wear the pink without the jacket. @thumper1 is right you just need to order and try. If it’s something you really like I’d order in two sizes. If it’s from a store with a brick and mortar nearby you can return in store. I tried to return the definite no’s right away in the hope of getting a credit before it hit my CC bill.
@thumper1 that’s the plan once I can get it down to 3 or 4. I’m going to take a road trip again to the Rack, L&T and Nordstrom and just try a bunch of different styles on.
@mom60, I never wear dresses (well, sundresses at the beach but…) so I have no idea. I know what I like to look at but I want to make sure I don’t dress too young, too old, too sexy, too conservative…LOL I keep seeing the MOG/MOB long dresses with old-lady looking overcoats for lack of a better description. I don’t think I need to go that route. And then I see some that are so low-cut my S would be embarrassed for me, def don’t want to go that route either.
Geez, I wish I liked to shop, at least this would be fun. But thank you everyone who is helping out here, I really appreciate it. My circle of friends dress like I do…medical scrubs or jeans, flannel, boots, tshirts, the occasional nice slacks and blouse for a night out so they are no help at all.
If you never wear dresses you may find that getting a good fit for a petite figure can be more than just shortening the hem. I almost always MUST find a petite size in a dress because a regular size will often have the dress waist hitting me closer to my hips, making for an unflattering look. Of course it depends how you’re built, short waisted, long or short legs, dress style, etc.
Plan a trip to NR and bring a friend - even if they hate shopping as much as you do - they probably won’t mind as long as they aren’t the ones trying on! And it’s a special occasion they will likely be helpful and honest.
Make sure you are well rested and not hangry and have plenty of open time when you go.
I hope you’ll order your original dress along with any others you’re considering. Though I like many of the dresses posted here, your first pick is my favorite. Good luck!
