Need ideas for furniture/apartment furnishings

Thank you everyone for the ideas. I found out today that my brother didn’t make the ‘cut’ for the section 8 apartment, but he is still on the list (at the top!). So hopefully within the next year, they will have another opening and he will get his paperwork in on time (first come, first served). I was able to speak with the LA County housing authority person who was very helpful. She explained the process- very convoluted. but I can possibly help my B bypass- or accomplish early- some of the steps.

I have a business trip next week to California- about 2.5 hours away from B. I can take one day, pick him up and drive another 1.5 hours; meet the apartment manager, give him $30 for a background check, and hopefully ‘sell’ the idea that my B would be a good renter. Then when the next opening occurs, he may still remember my B, and hopefully offer him the apartment. We shall see.

In the meantime, I’m adding all these places that might have furniture to my list. If we have time on Monday, we may even stop by and see what these places look like in order to narrow down the search. I’m also hoping we can look inside an apartment to get an idea of how much room will be available…

thanks again for all the help.

If you have a Big Lots near you, they have inexpensive furniture that is quite decent for the price. They usually will have the name of an independent delivery service if you don’t have a truck. I had a sofa, bookcase and end table that I bought for a spare room delivered for $50 that way.

All three pieces plus delivery came in right under $500.

You’re a great sister, @ChuckleDoodle. Sending good vibes for your brother getting off the list sooner than later!
