missypie, we’re going to NYC next week w/teen D. Thanks for the update…

missy…between seeing lotsa Bdway shows and all that shopping, sounds like a blast of a trip for you and your girls. You seemed to find the right stores for them.

Update on my D…has not yet shopped for a dress. Promises she will this weekend. Must have it for July 20 performance. We shall see.

I thought about your D the other night…we had ducked into a grocery store on 47th to buy Orangina after a show and there was a girl there in a black dressy dress with a big bouquet of flowers and I figured she had just finished a special performance and I wondered if your D had found a dress.

Ah, sweet. Nope, not her! My D has two different shows coming up four days apart. We are flying in for each one. But it is only one of them that needs the dress. She hasn’t done anything about it yet but says she WILL. I feel pretty confident that she realizes she MUST considering the nature of that performance. I hope she finds something. Come to think of it, you were pretty close to where the performance will be that needs the dress! (43rd)

(my D wasn’t even in NYC Sat. night and went out of town)

When I think of all the stores we were in, I can’t think of one where I’d say “She’ll be certain to find something here…” But once she puts in the effort to find “the dress”, she’ll be set for a while, as long as she stays the same size.

Years ago, my husband sang with the Chicago Symphony Chorus under the direction of Margaret Hillis. At the end of each perfomance, the symphony conductor would bring Ms. Hillis out to take a bow. Ms. Hillis had three gowns, each identical except for the color. Chorus members would make bets on which color she would wear on a particular night. Your D can be like Margaret Hillis…get her “working wardrobe” together once, then keep it forever.

My D has bought more formal wear including cocktail dresses at Bloomingdales. She also has several BCBG dresses. They were not inexpensive but view them as part of her “investment” wardrobe.

BCBG has been bombarding my inbox with sale ads.

Last week the BCBG store on Newbury Street in Boston had everything on sale, at least 30% off.
