<p>As for 1 in 26 odds, my hunch is that those odds vary considerably depending on specific situations. I’ve already mentioned that certain international schools have obvious relationships. I would also guess that there are financial aid situations as well. For example, it is entirely possible that a Swarthmore alumni donated endowment money 40 years ago earmarked for finanicial aid to Nepalese students. Or, there may be Nepali government scholarships. I have no idea, but logic tells me that there is some specific historic reason that two or three Nepalese students enroll at Swathmore every year. That is not random chance.</p>
<p>None of this kind of thing could be known outside of people intimately involved in admissions from that country. If I were Nepalese student, I would want to talk to the guidance counselor at the school I mentioned about odds. That person is probably the world’s leading expert on Nepalese college admissions!</p>
