Nest Thermostat

We got a nest right before Christmas , but when we got it home, found out that it was one that was returned and given to us in error. Nevertheless, my gadget loving husband tried installing it before he realized it didn’t have all the parts …in doing so, he accidentally disconnected the current thermostat , thus leaving us with no heat

I am not looking forward to him going back for round two with the replacement , but reading about the notification of the house fire may make me change my mind

The fire notification was pretty awesome. I think that I would call 911 though and not drive home unless I was really close by. Our smoke detector is hardwired to the fire station. Once H was fixing a faulty carbon monoxide detector and they were there within minutes.

So far I adore the Nest. The entire house feels warmer on a lower temp. I wonder if once it has its program if we will need to override it, though. It really is uber cool and as we have an Alexis I can change the temp from the kitchen when I am cooking and getting overheated.

We have 2 Nests - one for each furnace. We also have a love/hate relationship, but overall I like the thing. My biggest issue is that I am convinced that the house is either too hot or too cold and never how I like it regardless of the temp setting. Never had this problem before and I suspect it has to do with the furnace “fan” timer option which I cannot figure out.

The first winter we had it set to have the house at our chosen temp by 7 am. Since we live a below zero area this meant it would start heating up a couple hours earlier. Before I figured out what was happening, I thought I was going through night sweats again.

He also have a Haiku fan in our bedroom that is whisper quint and quite intelligent. It is connected to the Nest and turns on/off or changes fan speed/direction accordingly. Though it also thinks it is smarter than me. Last night I turned the ceiling fan off and within a half hour it came on by itself. Very Twilight Zonish…

Did anyone see the today show this morning where they demonstrated the Amazon echo? They were busily talking to it and then Harry Connick Junior told Alexa to shut up. After that he didn’t respond to anything and they thought it was broken and there was a lot of dead air time. They finally figured out that it was just responding to the command to be quiet

Still happy with the Nest. However, had to turn the app off that has it turn down when we leave.
I did not like coming home to a chilly house that took time to reheat.
Also, having issues with the bedroom becoming hot in the early a.m.
Still, I think that with time we will get our personal kinks out.
Also, I truly think that it is talking to our furnace in a much better way than our old Honeywell was
talking. The heat seems much more consistent overall.
So–a learning curve for sure but very happy with the purchase,
