NEU FAQs Answered

@ xnamelessx–Massachusetts has an “open container” law that states you can’t be drinking alcohol in any public place (like a park, on the sidewalk…) that isn’t licensed to serve alcohol. This is not always enforced, and you can get around it by pouring your alcohol into another container (a coffee to-go cup?), not that I am advocating this! (ex, our town has concerts on the common in the summer and some adults will mix cocktails and bring them in a thermos with paper cups. They would not bring a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer) You are also not allowed to have an open container in a car–even as a passenger.

you should search the NEU site for the specific campus policy–oh wait, here it is:

not a very extensive list.

I can’t speak to campus events as my S is starting in the fall–but MA ge.n laws are pretty strict about alcohol- and it’s only recently that you can even buy alcohol on a Sunday! Blame all our Puritan roots!! :)
