Congrats, SLUMOM…nice start to the weekend…

got some good news. accepted into drexel.

Does anyone here have any experience with Drew? As a student near the top of the range of this thread (I’m 3.3-3.5 I think), I think Drew would be a good fit. The middle 50% for the SAT is very reasonable (1620-1890). I’m just looking for some more information!

It is over 50k per year, if you need a great FA package, you might be disapointed in what they offer! Their FA stats are not very impressive.

Really? USNews had their merit aid as one of the top in the country so I assumed need-based aid would be similiar.

That’s disappointing to me since I’ll need substantial aid =[

SLUMOM: Congrats…care to share where?

yabeyabe: I have enjoyed the addicted thread too. I also started one last spring something like "You know you are the parent of a college bound senior when…

Mine was “when you finish every url you type with .edu instead of .com”

CIA, According to this site [College Navigator - Drew University](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - Drew University) 100% of the students get financial aid with an average institutional grant of $16,000.

I know one student who is a junior at Drew. He’s really enjoyed his time there and did get good merit aid but did not qualify for need based aid.

My son liked Drew (senior) and aid is all over the place. He got a higher GPA (3.69) but other friends he made had lower and got decent FA packages, although some didn’t.
I think it is partly what they are looking for. If you are geographically out of their area, it helps, if you come from a state not well represented, if you are a minority, male, first generation, it all helps.
Do you qualify for need-based? At the time my son started, they gave us more than 100% need schools with grants and scholarships. They do change that if you make more later, but if your income stays pretty much the same, your grants will.

I’ve gotten everywhere from 0-5000EFC on the financial aid calculators. We’ll see when I do the actual numbers instead of rough estimates.

I come from Virginia (a state not well represented there), am male and am first generation. So I guess that helps.

Hey, liljay - congrats on the Drexel acceptance! That’s one that is on my son’s list, but merit aid will have to happen for it to be a serious candidate.

News of acceptances is getting me excited about going to the mailbox again. Sooo looking forward to news from the last two schools.

dig dig keep us posted. Hope all news is good to excellent! Is your D doing the scholarship competition at Linfield?

Also wanted to ask if you or anyone else can give insight into Western Washington, Washington State and maybe Boise State regarding business, social life and outdoor activities.

CIA, Drew has a very nice campus, in a very nice suburb with restaurants, a jazz club and a commuter train to Manhattan within walking distance. The kids I know there like it. It has a strong theater program. The kids seem nice and down to earth.

They will like the fact that you are not from the Northeast.

historymom, yes, D is going to the scholarship day. We are going on a college tour next week that ends in McMinnville.

I wish I could help with WWU. We haven’t been back since that sweltering July day when we did the tour, listened to the panels, and high-tailed it back to the air-conditioned car, passing quickly through the “Ridge” dorms. We will go spend a day soon. As for outdoor activities: water, mountains, woods. Take your pick. Mt. Baker is nearby for snow sports. Here are the upcoming WWU Outdoor Center activities:

HistoryMom- The D of a good friend of mine is a junior at Western. She is from Ca and has fallen in love with the area. I think she is majoring in something along the lines of International Health. She is always busy doing something in the outdoors. She has found the students very friendly. They also feel the tuition is reasonable compared to what they paid for a UC for their other child.
If you look back a few days you will find a thread I started on Washington State Univ. I received some good responses about the school.

Do your kids have dream schools? Mine doesn’t, and I think it is making the decision more difficult. She crossed off Lewis and Clark, UW, and Gonzaga for various reasons. She is having a harder time moving schools up her list. As Monty Python used to say, and now for something completely different . . . the College of Santa Fe has re-emerged as a possibility. Last year at this time we thought it was about to close. It seems ownership has been transferred and life is going on at that quirky art school in the high desert. It feels very late to be thinking about something so new and different, but for a creative person . . . heaven on earth. Just musing.

DD loves all the schools to which she applied. Really, she’d be THRILLED to be accepted at any othem (7). It’s going to come down to $$$$.

Perhaps that is the problem–they are all good choices, making choosing hard. There could also be a wee bit of lassitude after all the work of last year and the current waiting game.

dig-dig at this time last year one of my 09 girls had no clear #1. She liked all 6 of her early acceptances. After an overnight at Linfield during the scholarship weekend it moved to the top of the list but after another overnight at St. Mary’s it became her number 1. But that didn’t happen until the middle of April. Multiple good choices, an embarrassment of riches for sure.

My sympathies on her adding another school at this point. ;)

mimimom: good luck to your D!

If I don’t get this off my chest via the forum, I will cause some serious physical pain to my lovely son. (just kidding, but I am royally ticked off). He has a 2.8 GPA and has been accepted to 3 colleges (applied to 4). In case he messes up this semester, I wanted him to have a couple of backups. A letter arrives in the mail from one of his acceptances. It says “I am sorry to learn that your will not be attending XYZ college” What was this kid thinking? He said he got tired of the phone calls and so he told them he wasn’t attending. Grrrrrrrr Now this was not his top choice…but still…

Thanks for listening, now I have to figure out a peaceful way to deal with this!
