enormous congrats WB! Yay!!! thanks in advance for the visit reports too!

Congrats, WB. Still waiting for most here…oye! Spring can come soon enough.

Fantastic news, warriorboy. Congratulations!

Yay WB! Congrats!

Big congrats to WB & son! Looking forward to your visit reports.

hello all…the 2010 parents thread is updating admitted: waiting, etc. for the regulars…maybe everyone can do this here?

admitted: (specify ED, EA, scholarship etc.)
waiting:
deferred/rejected:

and if you are done, let us know where?

Unless you think this is a HORRIBLE idea, and you can ignore me…hehehe

Not willing to post our son’s info publically, but if you send a PM to me and you are a regular poster, I can share our personal situtation. My son applied to small schools in the northeast, midwest, and a couple in the south. Every private school offered merit aid to him with the exception of one (so about 10 with merit awards, and 1 did not offer any merit aid).
The range of merit aid offers were large but sticker prices varied widely as well. The range was 7500 to over 17,000. Most merit aid was in the 12k-15k range.

I don’t mind sharing, no one knows me, I tell people IRL anyway:

Admitted: Drexel - rolling, no merit
Umass Lowell - rolling, no merit
U of Hartford, rolling, merit $$
UVM - RD, no merit

Waiting RD: Umass Amherst, Northeastern.

No final decisions until financial aid packages received, I expect little financial aid so lack of merit aid/sticker price will heavily influence the final decision.

I had wanted S to apply to more schools, but it is what it is.

I think it’s a good idea, Rodney. Here goes:

Admitted RD: Framingham State College, Assumption College, MCLA
Deferred EA: Saint Michael’s College, UVM
Still waiting RD: Clark University, Merrimack College, Roger Williams University

Going a bit crazy since all apps went out in November, though deadlines for a number of them were not until February. (what were we thinking??)

Have not heard about any financial aid packages or merit from any schools yet, though several requested more documents, as the FASFA is undergoing an audit year, selecting folks for review. We got lucky

“Mid-March” cannot come soon enough!!! This wait is worse than waiting on the Ivies with my older son several years ago, since many of the kids have already heard about their schools, and the Top Tier applicants all sort of commiserate the wait together to March 31st. [does that make sense?]

Good luck everyone~

Congratulations and continued good luck to all the 3.0-3.3 CC kids and their parents!!!

Here’s warriorboys

Admitted EA (most with merit)- Marist, Susquehanna, Hendrix, Furman, Rhodes, UConn, High Point, Hofstra, McDaniel, (I think I’m missing one!!)
Admitted EDII - Franklin and Marshall

CCL, trust me, if you had not gotten in the apps in November, your holiday season would have been much less relaxed!

Good luck!

CCL, here is an interesting comment regarding your last post about the wait. My son is still waiting to hear from 3 more schools (one is reach, and two are match schools). One of the match schools has rolling admission after a certain date. So many people have now been admitted and my son has not heard anything. I decided to give a call to admissions and inquire on the status of the application. My son applied in early October, but they require midyear grades, so his file was only “complete” for 3+weeks. Still, decisions are posted online and many kids seem to have a decision. I asked how that works. I was told that decisions are made by…drum roll…“algorithm”. I know the term, but what does that mean with respect to admissions? Why would someone in admissions respond with that answer? I thought it was odd, and really am not sure what to make of it. I have a feeling that my son will see a rejection from them soon (it is okay, he has good options if that school does not admit him).

“algorithm” sounds like rubric (teacher speak)…and could possibly be akin to a computer program imo…a little too stats driven for holistic admissions? weird response…

rodney, it was a very weird response. It makes me think that she saw on her computer that he has been rejected and she had this pat response that she uses on any applicant who calls and asks why they were denied admission. I think that she decided to recite it to me too when I asked if hearing earlier or later means anything.

Could the algorithm be that, for example, kids scoring above their 75th percentile in GPA and boards get admit notices first?
