New 3.0 to 3.3 (GPA) Parents Thread

So Clark becomes the first school with 2 of our kids! Will Gweeta’s son add Goucher to that list? Will any of the 4 kids agree to meet someone through their parents? The suspense grows…I am not sure my son would agree to meet someone (especially a girl) at my instigation even if it were the child of Michael Jordan and the dad was coming along.

FTC, the suggestion that you start a separate thread was a very good one; I beleive there are also separate engineering and separate sports recruiting groups or threads.

Congratulations to nightchef and capecodlady! Clark looks like a great college - it’s on my niece’s list, and as a matter of fact, so is Goucher!

I’ve met people from bulletin boards in real life and my kids have even met some kids of my bb poster friends. It was not as strange as one might think. My boys have lots of on-line friends from gaming and bulletin boards themselves. I post on another bulletin board and many of us met on-line when our oldest kids were looking at Colleges - 7 or 8 years ago! We meet periodically IRL in NYC and have a blast talking about everything. It’s quite funny to put real names and faces to screen names.

Congratulations on the college decisions!

Congratulations to nightchef and capecodlady! Great schools! Now that the decisions are over we can enjoy the rest of senior year - proms, graduation and lots of celebrating.

We’re almost there (looks like Goucher), but not quite.

Re putting names to faces-- that could be particularly funny in light of some of the screen names we’ve chosen.

CCL, Clark is a great school. That’s how I knew D was going to Williams, she called during Previews and asked how much clothing she could buy at the bookstore.

Congrats to all our 2010 grads!! looks like there are some people who will be meeting up in Worcester and Baltimore in the fall!!!

reporting here from the 2011 camp: ACT’s are in…did you hear the screaming in your state???..

warning; “kvelling” parent here: daughter hit a 27 on her first shot!!..after running 23/24 on practice tests…

only on this thread could I boast about a score like this…now, I can tell all of you that her PSAT’s were the equivalent of 400 points lower than this…

on to June; her list has a number of schools that apparently superscore the ACT…

now, if we can get those grades in school up…time is running out…

A 27 is terrific!

rodney - that’s fabulous news! Congratulations.

^^rm: you beat me to my PM to you…I’ll write later…we need food in the house!!!

Well, I for one think a 27 is fabulous! Congratulations rodney.

rodney … our daughters are long-lost twins after all! Embarrassing PLAN and PSAT and now a 27, too! She’s ready to go for another try already!

Her GPA is doing well, so we’re hoping for the “upward trend” forgiveness.

Congrats Gweeta! A old, cynical friend is a professor at Goucher and praises the atmosphere, friendliness and diversity of the students, etc. And congrats on conducting a search which resulted in 4 options he had difficulty choosing among!

And I absolutely agree re the “real names vs. screen names” dichotomy.

Emmybet and Rodney, congrats on the ACT. I wonder if girls are less reluctant than boys to meet, even in cyberspace, children of their parents’ cyberfriends.

Oh my Gosh Rodney and Emmybet a 27 is Awesome…opens up all sorts of new options AND potential merit!!!

Rodney…congratulations to your D on the ACT score!! That is wonderful, and I think some of the schools you were thinking of are definitely within reach!

Congratulations on the wonderful ACT scores!!! historymom is right, this opens things up for new options and for merit aid and/or more merit aid potential! Just wonderful news!!

ReadytoRoll, can your clear out some messages? I was trying to send a PM to you, but you hit the 50 mark. Thanks.

Thanks, everyone. My D said she wanted to go to the PLAN people who predicted a 22 at most and say HA!

In our area she can rest very comfortably with virtually all state schools as guarantees. That is a wonderful feeling, especially since she is very willing to go to Minnesota (reciprocal with WI) or a couple of the WI schools.

That’s also a good point about aid. When we visited Adelphi (she loves their theater program) they already told her based on GPA that she’d get aid and likely be in their honors program. They said anything over a 25 ACT would also get her merit money. She does have to audition for their BFA, though - but she’ll apply early to their regular rolling admissions and get that done, before their merit money runs out.

Oops…sorry!

Care to share how they prepare(d) Dang "d"ruined my rhyme :(
