New 3.0 to 3.3 (GPA) Parents Thread

Yay for good new momtravels! There is hope from waitlists!

Yay for momtravels & her son! Congratulations!

Nightchef, usually when a student transfers they lose aid. The best deals go to the entering freshmen, who they hope will stay for all 4 years. If you review some schools’ FA websites, many times transfer student’s FA packages go out after the entering freshmen’s & the returning students. I certainly would not count on getting a real great deal by transferring after freshman year, unless child was admitted previously & had some great hooks! (i.e. super talented musician, athlete etc.)

Probably one place where it stands out is on the collegeboard’s website, if you select schools & use their “calendar” & it shows all the important deadline dates for applications, decisions, FA packages to be mailed out etc. I noted some schools were doing FA packages for transfers in June.

Momt, congrats. I know a number of kids from my son’s school who’ll be going to PC. Great school!

On our end, it’s official. He’s going to Goucher.

Meant to add, and of course it was his most expensive choice, so we had the same split reaction in our house as did Momt-- mom and son happy without reservation, me feeling some pain.

Glad to see we’re not alone.

I work part-time and told H that I’d work more if it helps. We’ll be empty nesters next year anyway. Also, we’re telling S that he has to pay for his books. He didn’t even flinch, so I guess he really wants to go.

Congrats to your Son on Goucher! As my sister says whenever she makes a large purchase, someday you’ll look back and realize that it didn’t matter.

Another Goucher student on this thread!

Congrats to Gweeta & son!

Read the two notes by momtravels in the previous page and this - what a change in mood! This goes to show it ain’t over until it’s over!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to momtravels and her son! What a wonderful surprise for your family! PC is a very good choice!

Gweeta, congratulations to you and your son on Goucher!!

Happy News! Congrats on the WL acceptance and the decisions.

Hi kids! My son is going to Wheaton College (MA), we mailed the check today.

Congratulation on all the acceptances! Happy outcomes after all the angst of finding good ‘fit’ colleges and waiting for results.

My S was one of the early ones to wrap things up. He has been on the facebook page for his school, already has some new ‘friends’ and is scoping out the roommate situation. He 's been applying places for summer jobs, I told him if he wants some of the ‘extras’ at school he’ll have to fund that himself.

Only 20-odd school days left…seems like only the other day I put him on the bus for kindergarten. :)

Slumom, congrats on a fine result!

Martina, you are so right!

…this is amazing.

My son just received an email from Loyola Maryland, the other school he was WL at and that he also really loved. Their WL was HUGE so we had all but given up hope, and he wasn’t even on the “priority” WL.

We’re leaving at the crack of dawn to take a second look at PC, then he literally has hours to make a choice, there’s no way we’ll be able to take a second look at Loyola, no time!

momtravels, what was Loyola offering? Admission?

SLUMOM, Congratulations on Wheaton!!!

momtravels - What a turn of events. Now your S has a hard decision - but he is in a great place.

I think so…I can’t imagine why else they’d want to “discuss his application”.

He was also WL there but we thought he had ZERO chance, they WL over 2,000 kids.

He is literally giddy…

Oh, wow! Sounds like he/you are going to have a tough decision to make!!!

Hard to believe they could be past their “priority” WL before April has ended. And 2000+ seems like an extremely long waiting list! What a strange process this is.

Two friends’ kids at Loyola MD like it. It lacks the big time basketball PC has, but Baltimore has a lot to do.

You never know, momtravels, what a turn of events!

H signed the enrollment form yesterday for S-“If this is such a good thing, why does it hurt so much?” I said “Ka Ching, Ka Ching”. LOL …

Nice to see everybody’s good news!

Although I often wonder grit my teet at college now costing over 10 times what it cost me, many does that bothers me less than dealing with with the combination of 18 year old obstinacy and severe senioritis!
