Yeah, I wonder how the formula went so wrong this year.

The first few weeks were boring, partly because they were trying to show fewer mean clips after all the flak they got when the one former contestant killed herself outside Paula’s house. I think they overcompensated in that regard.

And it feels like there were fewer stories leading up to the past three rounds. I didn’t really care about anyone, except Danny. I don’t even remember a lot of these people.

But the most disappointing part is the poor performances the past three weeks. Tonight was much better than the last two weeks.

I don’t think the show has run its course, but it needs to be retooled. I’m quickly losing interest.

I didn’t see the group auditions this year, but it seems a lot of talented people lose out there due to unlucky grouping. That is what happened to Natalie Weiss a couple of years ago. She had a good and well trained voice and should have made it through but got caught up in group drama.

Recorded it and just watched it - well mostly fast forwarded through it - overall - dreadful. I wouldn’t vote for one of them. 3/4s of them were out of tune and quite painful to listen to. They seemed to have some singers in the auditions - what on earth happened to them?

When I think back to last season and the 2 Davids and Brooke and several of the rest.

I’ve been terribly disappointed in the “top 12” groups over the last 3 weeks, although last night’s was the best of them overall. Still as many have pointed out, so many off-key performances (and just generally OFF).

That said, there is some talent there, Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds should find themselves in the top 5 later. I haven’t been enjoying this Season very much.
I don’t know that I like the new structure, don’t know that the new judge adds much, defnitely don’t like the hour long results shows. This might be my last Idol season, and sadly, I’ve heard the same from people I’ve talked with.

Maybe it will get better after the final 12 is selected. We can only hope.
PS I thought Von did a decent job…I finally saw it and thanks to you all for sharing what he’d sung. However, tonight I felt that Lil and Ju’Not were the best. Not sure who will get that 3rd spot, might be Scott. As much as I appreciate his story, though, his performance tonight was simply not that good.

Scott is a good singer. Is he a GREAT singer? Haven’t really seen that yet. BUT, apparently, he is a GREAT piano player. If he gets the chance to put his GOOD voice with his GREAT piano playing we will see a WONDERFUL musician.

The point is, when the piano is part of your “instrument” your voice doesn’t have to carry you all the way. A for instance (and some may disagree with me) - Elton John - I don’t think his voice is all that special, good, but not great. But he is a FABULOUS piano player. Put the two together and it is very, very special.

I think Scott can be that kind of special. Not Elton John big, mind you, but a success in the Josh Groban-type music world. And that would/could be a great place for him.

I didn’t see the whole show last night, just the last four and then the quick replay of all. I’ll probably watch it today. Based on the replay, Lil and then the girl that sang the country song seemed the best females. Lil exudes a kind of humble confidence and seems to be very centered. It’s kind of refreshing. The guys–I’m thinking Jorge. I didn’t see all of Junot performance, but based on what I did see it was good. I walked in when Scott was singing and asked what the bad sound was about.

I was really disappointed in last night’s show. I agree with those that though Lil was the best of the night.

We had liked Arianna previously as we have seen her in musicals here in San Diego, but she did not sound good last night. Song choice was horrible and what key was that? I still do not see how these contestants have had all this time to prepare and they come up with the worst songs. The other 17 year old girl (Taylor?) sang the same song she did in Hollywood week. Why would she do that when she had plenty of time to prepare something new?

We did not vote for anyone last night and will be curious to see who gets through. I wonder who the judges will bring back for their wildcard pick? I agree with alwaysmom about being disappointed in the top 36 overall.

You have to remember that much of AI is about a certain look and appeal to the audiance and not so much about singing talent. When you listen to many popular singers today they do not have much singing talent (Britney Spears) because the voice can now be so processed that you don’t have to sing well!

Last night was disappointing. This format just isn’t doing it for me. Too many good ones going home too early. I still don’t get the Norman Gentle persona on AI…SNL, yeah, ok, but not AI. You have to “blame” it on the judges - they sent him all the way through.

Lil was the class of the ladies. No real front runner for the guys. Ju’not was ok, Jorge, eh, Scott, a bit off-key…still think he will go through.

The Wild Card show should really be interesting. Will the judges make their selection by the number of male vs female or straight up?

I think anyone who hasn’t figured out tonight’s SPOILER ALERT is alseep
I still liked Ju’noteven though he did not make it. It was at least a different attempt at a song instead of a copy of the original artist. I wonder how they decided the groupings.
Although they can’t really tell who is going to tank with a bad song.

I’m not really thrilled this year. But I am trying to remember if there were many times I liked them at the first real cut. They get more polished as they go along.

I’m hoping for noopdog. There was another guy they liked who played an instrument - the one who sang a Coldplay song I think. Boy, I am great with names.
