New American Idol thread

Another westcoaster sneaking a peak at who was voted off (I don’t like to watch the live show on results day). I am so sad Allison was voted off. I was hoping for an Allison-Adam showdown (knowing full well Adam would win). She is a huge, natural talent with a distinctive voice, and who has developed herself as a singer and performer for years. I thought she might be at risk, though, because she looked a little to “rocker chick” for some people. Danny has a good voice, but I do fear he would be a Taylor Hicks v 2.0. Kris has always been the dark horse, but if he wins, we’ll be scratching our heads in the morning.

I think Adam should win too. I love Chris, but Adam is the only one who interests me enough to subject myself to Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer to see.

I was expecting Kris to hit the road tonight. Allison is better than him. He has a lot more lame performances than the other three. I think it will be Adam and Danny in the finals and Adam will win big time. I guess there is no show next week while they tour the country.

Just got off an airplane and had to catch up. Too bad it was not Danny leaving. I don’t think a win by him would do American Idol any good. I like Adam best. The only one I have been tempted to download songs. I like Allison, but she needs time to work on proper vocal so she doesn’t ruin that voice. She’ll have a hard enough time on the tour without being the winner. Understand it does the untrained voices in. But just being in the top is enough to get good contracts, etc. when she comes off AI contract.

Yikes! Paula was an embarrassment. Where did she get the nerve to do that on a program that is about discovering SINGERS! Not only was she not singing, the track was so heavily digitalized and enhanced that it sounded like a computer was singing. It is sad to see someone who was a great dancer just parade around the stage and then hit a bunch of poses. What was that song by Madonna about that…Vogue? It was awful.
I think Alison has a natural “cool” factor that may not reach wide for AI voters but will serve her well when she records (which I am sure she will). She is a funky rocker chick with an amazing talent and confidence not to try to be the pretty pop idol. I wish she had not been voted off. She may just be the next Chris Daughtry. Was that 5 million albums honored by that plaque? Wow.
I find Kris and Danny bland, though I think they are talented. But of this last three, Adam is the stand out. I hope the fact that one of his favorite things about his performance was “I really liked my outfit.” does not work against him with the voters. :)

And what is the theme for next week? Mentor? Or is the filler going to be the home visits?

I’m afraid that we will look back on this some day and say that “the day Paula Abdul “performed” on AI was the day that AI jumped the shark.” Downright painful & embarrasing. Like Adam, but want Kris to win :)

Paula-Awful. The comeback that didn’t.

Allison-disappointing that she’s not in the finals. She’s always been one of my favorites–love that big smoky voice and know she has a monster career ahead.

The Boys Club–hard to predict who will be in the Finals. The voters don’t always pick the best singer, as we’ve seen. I’m hoping for Adam although I truly believe Kris is a true artist/musician. Kris and Adam are more naturally gifted than Danny who should have been the one to be sent home.

I’ll miss Allison.

Not sure, but I thought I heard that next week each contestant sings two songs–one of his own choice, and one chosen by the judges. Doesn’t sound like there will be a mentor.

Please, please, please, let’s hope Kara doesn’t decide to show us her “chops.”

ooooh, that woman is like nails on a chalkboard for me!

Does anyone know how tall-ish Adam is? He seems to tower over the other two (boots?) but I can’t get a sense.

I found one place that says Adam is 6’1" or 6’2". It also said that Ryan is only 5’8". We saw a taping of AI last season and Ryan is very short. My H and I were in the audiance that stands o the floor and my H is 6’2" so he had to stay in the back of the group.

My DD is so sad because Adam is going to be in San Diego tomorrow to sing at his old hs at 10:00 am. DD is not done with APUSH test until afternoon so she won’t be able to go see him.

Hmm, I could actually go to San Diego tomorrow for that. Must.stop.obsessing.

blankmind - Adam will be at Mt Carmel Highschool at 10 am and it is open to the public. I could take off work tomorrow and go myself, but DD would not be too happy with me!

Unfortunately, I’d have to go alone. Most of my friends refuse to watch Idol. Something about some guy named Daughtry…

A friend of mine here at work just came by and told me that his wife and 3 kids (they all skipped school!) are at the parade for Adam at Mt Carmel hs here in San Diego. He is suppose to talk and then sing for the crowd. I saw him on TV this morning and they surprised him and brought in his mom. He seems like such a genuine person and you can tell that comes from his great family!

DD will be so jealous when I tell her that my friends kids are there while she is taking the APUSH test!

showmom858, my son is taking AP Euro today, or I would have let him skip school to go with me. He’s not a big fan of Idol, but he is a huge fan of skipping school.

Just got back from Danny Gokey Day in Milwaukee. I know I’m about the only Danny Gokey fan on this board, but I thought I would report anyway. It was a whirlwind day that included a free concert at the Summerfest grounds where 26,000 fans showed up and then off to sing National Anthem at Brewers/Cubs game. I couldn’t believe how many people were at the Summerfest grounds beside the crowds lining the parade route leading to the fest grounds and at all the other venues he was at today. They just announced the song Paula picked for him to sing on Tuesday, Terence Trent D’Arby’s “Dance Little Sister”. He did mention that THE SCREAM really hurt his voice and that it was the first time he has ever felt pain. It was a ton of fun and my 14 year old daughter, husband and I had a blast!!

That’s cool, AZKmom!

What fun AZK. So since there are only three, which judge does not get to select a song? Just wondering how that will work.

Never thought about that, curious77. That’s true, 4 judges, 3 contestants. Who is left out? Danny mentioned yesterday that song choice has been the hardest thing for him and that he bit off more than he could chew with DREAM ON and that he had hit that last note 40 times before that but that it hurt his voice which has never happened to him before. If I could pick a song for him to sing it would be Bob Seger’s “Turn The Page”. What songs would the rest of you pick for your faves? I do love Adam also; Adam and Danny have been my faves from the start. Nothing jumps immediately to mind for a song I would pick for Adam. He can do anything and make it his own.
