That looks like a Babinski reflex, which is actually evidence that there is grave neurologic damage. You don’t see it in people who have higher brain function, except in infants, which is why it’s known as a primitive reflex. Sigh.

Isn’t that the video which was referenced in court filings which was intended to show that Jahi was not brain dead but actually just shows spinal reflexes which are not mediated by the brain? And if so, wasn’t it taken in late December?

Nsdsbd - I also think this is old video but the uncle posted it a day or so ago in response to challenges from skeptics. So, it’s back and in the news, again.

It’s all so sad.

In another article I read, her mother stated that she began to smell funny also.

A recent post on the family facebook page stated that Jahi is “doing great.” I have no idea who this person is or if they have seen the child in person or not.

There are some clueless souls on that fb page! They’re all talking like it’s a matter of time before she opens her eyes. I think the family owes these people some real updates.

^^^^Yes, many of the comments are…interesting. Of course, any posts which question any of it or don’t adhere to the “party line” are immediately deleted, from what I could tell.

Just a mod reminder in a post (since we aren’t yet able to list edit reasons under the edited post), Facebook links aren’t allowed on CC.

OOPS! Sorry. I knew about private blogs but not Facebook. My bad.

Ironic since it seems we can link CC to Facebook with a click now :)

<a href=“Jahi McMath: Is it safe to have tonsil surgery at Children’s Hospital Oakland? – The Mercury News”>Jahi McMath: Is it safe to have tonsil surgery at Children’s Hospital Oakland? – The Mercury News;

What an irresponsible, fear-mongering headline! The article itself cites the hospital’s excellent safety record, but heaven forbid that information would have made it into the headline.

What I found most interesting in the piece was the fact that today tonsillectomies on children are primarily done for apnea, and that the rate is on the rise. I assume this has a lot to do with the childhood obesity epidemic. When I was a kid, tonsils (and adenoids) were removed almost routinely. Kids looked forward to the mandatory ice cream that was said to follow the surgery–our parents really sold us a bill of goods!

Thanks for sharing the link. What I found most interesting was the following from Dr. Baugh regarding post-surgical bleeding:

"bleeding has not necessarily been linked to poor medical procedures.

“The cause of secondary bleeding is unclear and presumably occurs without specific provocation and therefore cannot be prevented,” he said. "

Although I feel certain that a lawsuit will be filed at some point, this makes the family’s claims of poor care less valid. Throw in the rumors that the family tried to make Jahi talk, laugh and eat, and their case becomes less clear. Sometimes medical emergencies and death just happen without fault. It’s sad, but it is true.

Clergy now demanding to meet with the hospital to address the handling of the case http://postnewsgroup.com/blog/2014/02/09/clergy-criticizes-childrens-hospitals-continued-insensitivity/

^^^^I like how they “demand” to meet with the hospital. Are they speaking for the parents, or are they just more people using this child/family for their own agenda?

They’ll be even more angry if they do meet with the hospital, because the hospital leaders (at their attorney’s advice) will listen politely to what the clergy have to say, and say that they’ll carefully consider it. End of meeting.

In other news…Uncle Beast has posted an Instagram of his newly buff torso proclaiming that he is getting in shape for an upcoming acting job.

The hospital doesn’t answer to clergy (thankfully) and I hope they tell them to buzz off.
