New Jersey's 'new' map

New Jersey is very complex.

Garland…sounds like we live in the same community! Our vacation house is smack in middle of Springsteen Country.

Yeah, I also lived near Springsteen country growing up (went to the same HS as Miami Steve) ,but when we decided where we want to live when we can move out of North Jersey, S country had gotten too crowded and a bit pricey, and we ended up much farther south. But a lot of my heart is still in Monmouth Co.

In North Jersey, I live on the edge of Melting Pot and Poor Minorities, so we might not be in the same community, but close.

I see ‘Melting Pot’ as west of GSP and sandwiched between 280/78, with a western border that is somewhat east of Morris County (ie excludes Millburn/SH & Livingston…they’re part of the Mercedes folks!).

Hmm, I would assume melting pot would at least include West Orange, South Orange, Maplewood, Montclair–those are the kind of towns i think of when I think "melting pot."I would agree that Livingston/Millburn are not, though. (I actually don’t live in any of those. there are a lot of definitely melting pot towns which are lower in income, but not in the area designated by the map–so I guess I think the map’s inaccurate in that category.)

When I was in East Brunswick, I did not see many drunken Rutgers Students, at least not in my neighborhood.

The Rutgers kids I know seem to be pretty focused on work and school, actually.

Got a good laugh, thanks for posting that! Our summer home is in the “Gaudy summer homes” area…very accurate. Very funny.

Hunterdon County=farmers and subdevelopments–pretty much. I prefer Vermont in NJ.

I grew up in Joisey and I think this is very funny. Typically, people ask of NJites, “what exit?” This is much better! LOL!

It looks like I grew up in “Huge Houses and Country Clubs” (my house wasn’t huge but not too far from a country club) and my brother now lives where there are “Happy White Families,” and my dad’s business used to be in “Worse than Detroit.” These images are kinda on target!

When people ask where I am from, I typically say, “Philadelphia,” because if I say, “NJ,” everyone thinks of North Jersey it seems, and I can’t be associated with “THEM,” ha ha. Actually, my hometown was a suburb of Philly and not NYC.

barrons, as someone who grew up in NJ and has lived in VT now for 30 years, NOTHING about NJ resembles VT!!

We have lived in Morris County for over 30 yrs and somehow have not located our mansion nor our Mercedes…or was it BMW??
doesn’t matter…great place to live even without those things.

Soozie–I dunno, you say you grew up in Jersey, but i"ve never met anyone in Jersey who says Joisey, except ironically, and we’re Jerseyans, not Jerseyites. Clearly Vermont has affected your Jersey bona fides!

barrons - you couldn’t be more wrong. Several dear friends out in Hunterdon and they have lovely property, horses, cows, goats, chicken and big sprawling welcoming homes. Vermont is certainly very nice, too.

What I said was many areas of Hunterdon==esp the small towns resemble Vermont small towns. See Clinton, Oldwick, Pittstown etc. I was living there before the developments even started coming out there. Thus Hunterdon=Vermont in NJ.

Si I guess that makes that area a “barren wasteland”? ;)

“I was living there (in Hunterdon) before the developments even started coming out there.”

You must be very old. (jk!)

barrons, but does that area of NJ have mountains? I think of NJ as very flat and I live in the mountains here in VT.

Garland, I never call New Jersey, “Joisey,” but was making a joke since some mock it in that fashion. :D

But you are right about my misuse of “NJites” and it is “New Jerseyans,” but I have been gone too long.

~Signed this Vermonter, who will never be thought of as a true Vermonter here in VT and would be called a “flatlander” by true Vermonters. My kids are real Vermonters though.

Vermont and New Jersey … yeah I have a hard time keeping those two states straight. The other pair is Massachusetts and Montana … both kinda flat at the east end and hilly at the west end.

That’s okay, Soozie. We don’t mind jokes. We’re Jersey Strong!
