Ivyparent43, I found your post to be very helpful and did not take offense to the information shared. You were speaking about your experience and you had every right to do so. The people on this site who think that every eventuality must be taken into consideration before someone is permitted to post need to get a life.
Another poster can add to a persons comments if you feel it appropriate without insulting that person. One post should not be expected to be all encompassing.

Ok…as an international student…some things to consider.

Many colleges are not need blind for admissions for international students. This means your financial situation will be considered when your application for admission is considered.

If you need financial aid, you need to check EACH college for their policy regarding awarding financial aid to international students. Some don’t give any aid to international students, some give limited aid, some give the same as for any other applicants.

Consider the costs of travel or school break lodging in you costs. Some schools close their dorms for all major school breaks. Some have alternate arrangements for international students during breaks and others do not. Some charge for these…some don’t.

If your child is in a non-English speaking situation, they may be required to take the Toefl in addition to the SAT/ACT.

International students are not eligible for fee waivers for the SAT or Profile.

I suggest you also look at colleges in your native country…just in case.

23 excellent suggestion!

bump bump bump

This is such a broad post – can you please post specific questions or colleges, or your student’s stats & interests so other posters can make suggestions? You can’t “boil the ocean” in one post – and as thumper’s post pointed about above, the advice you get will vary quite a bit depending on your student’s circumstance. If you want to hear about a lot of different experience, go read the different threads on the CC site instead of asking people to re-post here.

There is a “Lessons Learned” subforum under College Admissions that also has a wealth of information. My lessons learned from my older daughter are here:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/admissions-hindsight-lessons-learned/1127557-lessons-learned-admission-cycle.html

@intparent

I’ve found all of your posts on this thread to be completely unhelpful. I happen to agree with many of ivyparent43’s comments.

And have you noticed that Thumper posted a comment that is probably MUCH more in line with what the OP needs to be thinking about given their probable situation?
