The Senate bill just passed another legislative hurdle.
I have friends already applying to jobs on the assumption that they’re going to drop out of the PhD programs. Sure, they may not have to, but rather safe than sorry .

My senators will vote no…but we need some GOP senators to,vote no…and that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
I bettr get a tax cut because I will need that money to pay my kid’s taxes on her tuition waiver.
It sucks.
My senators will vote “no” so I’ve been messaging my friends in blue states to encourage them to contact their senators and tell their friends. It’s a long shot but what else can one do?
My senators are no too and my rep lied to me and has had a “full” mailbox for quite some time
I almost wish I had some senator/representative who might vote yes so that I could call and argue with their staff.
Trust me @Ynotgo, you really don’t want that. My senators don’t respond to e-mails or calls.
Of those concerned about it to want to contact their senators and representatives, those living in states or districts with wavering Republicans are the ones whose calls would be most effective. The Democrats will all vote no, while most of the Republicans will vote yes, so the wavering Republicans are the ones who matter.
Well, one of the wavering ones is was one of mine—Murkowski just announced she’ll vote for the thing.
They stuck the opening up the Artic for drilling in the bill to get her vote.
Yeah, pretty much, @emilybee. After all, some Alaskan politicians may have an R next to their names, some may have a D, but either way it isn’t R-Alaska or D-Alaska, it’s R/D-Oil.
Sad, but true.
Like we need more oil. Sigh.
I read Thomas Friedman’s Op Ed today and I’ve decided to take his advice and take a break from BizzaroWorld for awhile. I can’t go on vacay now, but I’ve got a whole bunch of Netflix shows on queue and that should take me up to the start of the Aussie summer tennis circuit.
Well now. The Joint Commission on Taxes (it’s the Congressional Budget Office, but for taxes) says that by 2027, 156 million households, 84% of households, will get a tax increase or no tax cut. Of those, 42 million households will get a tax increase.
But hey, the corporate tax cuts are permanent.
Clearly…not enough folks care or are listening to the projections for tax increases for the middle and lower income folks.
And by the time they do…it will be too late.
People are listening. Less than 30% of people approve of this.
Those voting do not care. Most are in disgustingly safe districts and states.
This is going to pass. Collins was the last realistic hold out really and McConnell promised there would be no medicare cuts. 8-|
No Medicare cuts! Ha! Keeping my pockets widely open…
Very interesting loophole for which we would qualify if they don’t fix.
McCain just came out in support of the bill. It’s going to pass.
So now that this is going to pass, the real question to me is why are there no consequences for lying?
New, verified reports are out that the Treasury Secretary was to present a report saying this bill would pay for itself. Not only is there no report that shows this, no report was ever produced.
Why are there no consequences for lying?
