NEW Thread: Healing Wishes for Coldad, husband of SunriseEast

Just found this thread…happy to have a good news update! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. Best to coldad and his sons.

Dear friends,

My recovery has been steady. Three weeks of lying in bed does a trick on your muscles, and my biggest challenge now is to gain weight and strength. But with my wife as an inspiration, I’m very disciplined about physical therapy and eating regimen. Not half as disciplined as she was, but who can compete with her on that front? The day after tomorrow I’m heading to my office to resume work. I look forward to it, and also am aware of the fact that it is an important step in the healing process.

My kids are doing great. S2 is about to finish his sophomore year with better GPA than the one that he had last year. I visited him a few weeks ago and was delighted to meet his friends. There is a saying that you judge a person by the company that they keep. Well, if this is true then S2 is a fine person. S1 is going to graduate in June and then head to CA to start working as a software engineer. it is wonderful that S2 and I will be able to attend his graduation. Naturally, the joy will be accentuated by the pain of not having SRE with us. She wanted to be there so badly.

I plan to come back from time to time and give you an update on our lives. I will also update you on various initiatives that I’m considering to give back to the community and to share my wife’s legacy. One of these initiative is to publish her writing in an ebook and a physical book. All profits will go to charity.

I read every single post in this thread. It means a great deal for me. I thank you for your prayers, wishes and support.

Coldad- Wonderful news!! I think of you and your sons often, hoping that you are all doing as well as can be- and it is great to know that you all are. Enjoy these milestones! We are rooting for all of you!

Thanks for the update. Very happy to hear of your recovery. I am sure you are very proud of your boys and SRE is looking over all of you. Congrats on your S1.

Your kind heart is quite touching, thank you for sharing your update. Wonderful to hear of your sons’ accomplishments and their resilience, it struck me that Sunriseeast’ hope was for her illness to not impede their growth and clearly it has not.

Good luck returning to work tomorrow. Congratulations on your son’s graduation…

Coldad, it is wonderful to hear from you. I am looking forward to seeing sunriseeast’s words in print!

Coldad - So glad to hear from you, and happy to know that you and your sons are doing well. Thank you for sharing the good news.

Coldad, Thank you so much for the update! I am so happy that you are all doing so well. I remember when Sunrise started her thread. She had just been diagnosed, and her primary concern was helping your sons cope with her illness. I also remember her posts about their development in that regard, and I remember how comforted she was by the fact that both of your sons had matured to the point that they could deal with anything that happened.

I am so glad to hear that Sunrise’s writing will be published! Many of us were deeply touched, moved, inspired, and changed by her words. They deserve a wide audience.

Congratulations to your S1!

Dear coldad, I am up packing to go to my S2’s graduation from Vanderbilt. How proud your wife was of her almost graduate and his valiant job hunt during such a heart-wrenching time in your lives. Didn’t he do well in crafting the next step in his life? And it is grand that S2’s is able to be there. Sunriseeast also had so many positive things to say about your two sons and their friends. I am thinking of the college friend who came and spent time with you all who has such a lovely spirit that she wrote about here. Thank you so much for coming by, and please return. I applaud you for returning to the routines of work and of being parent to your boys, but I also grant you leave to be very very kind to yourself as the seasons come ahead of you with so many reminders and alterations.
You too have a story to tell, and chapters unwritten ahead in your life. Come round and give us some graduation images.

Here is mine: My S1 is 26, in love for the first time and employed and has grown into his true self, someone that we like a lot. He was born in Nashville, and likes to return. My husband got a grad degree from Vandy so we are never without the pleasure of our own pre-kids-struggling to get our our feet-era aging friends around us in Nashville. S2 graduating from Vanderbilt has been a total surprise, but has also had aspects of healing and completing some circles in our lives. We look around and recall our first jobs and our nights hitting the books in libraries in grad school, and we are very grateful that S2 has unexpectedly walked our streets, halls, and haunts.
on a selfish note, I am glad you still have a son in college that we can hear about as I am aging out of this forum…
great to hear from you

Dear Coldad What wonderful news you share. Thanks for letting us know how you all are doing. Enjoy your sons and their accomplishments as Sunrise so did. What a tribute and legacy they are to you both. Wishing you well and go easy easing back into work.

Thank you for the update, coldad. It is so good to hear that your family is moving forward and doing well!

Great news! Thanks for the update. May you continue in health and strength!

Dear Coldad,

First of all, MAZEL TOV on your wonderful recovery and on S1’s graduation. We all know that SRE will be there with her 3 most beloved men, in her way, sharing in the joy of the day.

SRE was enormously proud of her sons, and rightfully so. They are accomplished, thoughtful, wise, strong and loving boys… a true testament to the love and incredible parenting by both of you.

Thank you for coming back to update us and I look forward to checking back in to see further updates from you. I am especially thrilled to hear that you are working on getting SRE’s writings published.

Best to you as you head back to work tomorrow. Be kind to yourself.

Yasher Koach, my friend

Thank you for the update, Coldad. Congratulations to your S1 (who attends the same school as my S, although in different years and I don’t think they know each other). I’m so happy that you and S2 will be able to attend his graduation.

I have a real life friend who had a lung transplant about the same time you did, and as I watch her recovery, I think of you often. What joy to be able to breathe!

Bump, to make sure more people see that Coldad checked in!

I also remember SRE stating how comforted she was that you had always been the nurturing one for your boys. So glad the three of you have each other.

Coldad, it is wonderful to hear from you! It is like getting word of a dear friend’s recovery to hear your good news of your health and the good progress of your precious sons. Congratulations to S1 on his graduation and job! I am sending good healing thoughts as you return to work. Go easy on yourself: you’ve been through very tough times, physically and emotionally. I am glad you will continue to keep in touch and I will look for updates.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful news, Coldad. I too think of SRE and you, her family. I wish you continued strength in your recovery. Congratulations on the boys’ successes! So glad you checked in.

Coldad, thank you for the wonderful update. I’m happy to hear that you and your boys are all doing well. Your family will always hold a special place in my heart. Sunrise has become a part of us all.
