NEW YEAR’S EVE FOOD or PLANS (even if you are home you may have “plans”!)

Three couples sharing a little food and sampling 6 bourbons (each couple brings two). Same crew and approach for the last few years.

Nice and relaxed.

Going out for an early dinner with friends to a new hip and supposedly wonderful restaurant, then home and probably in bed before midnight. I have a gift card to use from my Ds that they gave me for my birthday, so it was about time we tried it.

Happy New Year, everyone.

I’m hosting a small party for a dozen friends. Taking a breather before the food goes in the oven. We’re doing heavy appetizers, champagne, and dessert. Guests bring the desserts so I’m just responsible for the savory stuff and beverages.

On the menu tonight are meatballs, shrimp cocktail, artichoke dip, baked Brie with honey pecans and cranberries, Parmesan crusted Brussels sprouts with a dip, stuffed mushrooms, tomato soup shooters with mini pretzel bites, antipasto (in the shape of a wreath that someone shared on the Christmas menu thread) and deviled eggs.

Brother flew in yesterday because we’re going up to Pasadena tomorrow morning for the Rose Bowl. We’re going to an early dinner tonight at Peohe’s on Coronado, overlooking the bay and city. I plan to order Prime Rib. Then we’ll come home and toast the east coast new year. At midnight I’ll video call with son, who will live stream the Space Needle show out his apartment window.

Then to sleep and up early for the drive. We’ll park at a friend’s son’s house who lives close to the stadium. He’ll drop us as close as he can get, hoping within a mile. We’ll eat something in the stadium, no idea what! Then friend will pick us up as close as he can get and we’ll have takeout at their house, no idea what! Stay in a hotel overnight, view the floats on Tuesday morning, bring brother back to the San Diego airport, go home, and collapse.

We are going to H’s buddy’s house where we have welcomed countless NYEs. His other old buddies are coming and some other adult kids and the next generation. H makes a yummy sushi rice for it and others bring other dishes. It’s nice to catch up.

Tomorrow, NYD, we gather at my brother’s place. We are bringing salad & appetizers, others are making other dishes.

Streamed London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks knowing that DS19 and DD22 were on the backs of the Thames opposite the London Eye.

Staying home with spouse for a low-key New Year’s Eve. Invited a friend over to watch Taylor Swift’s Eras Concert on Prime Video.

We’re at a very nice restaurant at a hotel for dinner. Then we’re going to a big party in the ballroom. We shouldn’t be spending this much but it’s fun for a change.

We are the lamest on here. Just ate frozen pizza, drinking margarita (and rum and coke for DH) and watching Love and Death on HBO Max.

Pups are chilling with us.
I hear fireworks in the neighborhood periodically.

Will likely be in bed by 11:00 or 11:30 (after I’ve read some in my cool new book- “What the Neighbors Saw” by Melissa Adelman).

You aren’t the lamest here! That’s us. We ate a little bit of crackers and cheese, and then a salad with some shaved parmesan. I’m happy to be recovered from the flu, and we’re sitting on the couch watching the last season of Rizzoli and Isles (we’ve binge-watched the whole show over the last two weeks). I had a Guinness–first alcohol in several weeks! :innocent:

Kids are all still here, till tomorrow. Shortly we’re going to head out to the new local bar. We went Wednesday night and they have golf simulators, shuffleboard, bags. Tonight there will be dancing as well. DD’19 and fiancé like to swing dance, so we’ll see if they can do some of that. Not sure what the music or the dance floor will be like. DH and I might not stay long.

Lamest of lame here! We ate frozen pizza and watched the first episode of “All the Light You Cannot See.” I have read the book once, H several times, not totally into this version.

I’m going to read a book now and he is looking at his phone.

Now we’re texting with the “kids”. Garlandworld is a very exciting place!

Happy New Year!

Are you going to the parade? The Rose Parade is on my bucket list! I watch it on TV every year.
