Hi @Sonnie323 - of the ones on your list Dean is the only one my S has visited and auditioned for so far. We went to the campus right when he finished school in June and made a weekend of it, adding in a visit to BoCo and Emerson. We knew nothing of Dean prior to his MT advisor telling us about it based on what my son thought he was looking for (something in the NYC or Boston area that was going to allow him to take advantage of outside auditioning opportunities). We have been impressed with them since Day 1. We pulled into the parking lot to a personalized parking space they designated with his name on it! Our tour was an individual one with a Performing Arts major (dance) and since the dance majors work so closely with the Acting and MT majors she was a wealth of information. They seem to take personal interest in all the students - during our tour we just “happen” to run into the director outside the locked theater so he was able to open it and show us all around while telling us about the program. They clearly had read the sign up info for the tour, because the director even knew our younger son’s name and age…lol. We loved that they have a physical therapist designated just for the performing art majors. The areas in the theater field to minor in are pretty extensive and the internship partners they have are pretty impressive. it’s definitely a smaller school, only about 1200 students, but 1/3 of the school is performing arts (they have 4 different specialties). And because the school is smaller, their financial packages are very generous
My S auditioned the 1st weekend in Dec and it was his first, which I am glad about because it was very laid back so it was a nice way to ease into the process. He applied to their acting program (not MT) and the 2 groups are separated at checkin…he did his 1st monologue for one professor, went back to the waiting area, and then was called into a separate room to do his 2nd monologue for the professor and the director. They talked to him a lot and then when they saw all the MT experience my S had on his resume asked if he would sing - only the MT applicants were taken to warm up for songs, so he was worried he didn’t get that but he said OK. the director gave him his card and invited him to a show in the Spring. Then all MT and Acting applicants were taken to learn a movement piece. He got such great feedback that a few days after his audition he emailed the director and asked if it was possible to be considered for MT, the director said he would be happy to do that.
Sorry for the length of the post, just trying to convey info I know I would have wanted to know searching for schools I knew nothing about this time last year!!! My S auditions for Marymount Sat so if no one else chimes in by the weekend I’ll be happy to give you what info we get about that program - we have not visited the school yet.
