That is a strange spot for a medical “campus”. There’s really no chance for expansion in that neighborhood, unless they’re going to take over the Canadian consulate!
It’s not a medical campus. The Newseum building will be used for their international affairs program which makes the location more appropriate.
I went to the Newseum every time I was in DC. I loved that they did a luggage hold.
I adore the Newseum (even the cafeteria is great)! I think it should become part of the Smithsonian and charge no admission fee like the other Smithsonian locales. After all, what better subject is there for the U.S. to promote than freedom of the press? Our tax dollars are supporting the National Postal Museum (nice, but really, how compelling a place to visit?) and the exhibit of pop culture items like Dorothy’s ruby red slippers at the Museum of American History. Surely we can spare the dollars needed to appropriately celebrate one of our nation’s fundamental freedoms.
Especially now when the freedom of the press is coming under attack.
I visited it a couple of years ago, after many trips to DC. It must be difficult to compete with the great free offerings.
The location will be great and more visible for JHU SAIS. Not sure what nursing programs the article is referring to as the main nursing school is in Baltimore along with the medical and public health schools.
Huh! I missed all of that when taking my niece , nephew and brother around DC I knew Hopkins was moving into new space in DC for its SAIS program but had no idea what it was replacing in that location.
I’m sorry We did not get a chance to visit. I think the kids would have really enjoyed it. Absolutely, it’s very difficult to prioritize what to visit in a few days in DC area. We were able to get a number of free museum passes and used our money for theater and dining.
Well, thanks to this thread, I will make a point of visiting this museum next month with H and S when in DC. I’ve never been before.
We will also go and see other museums instead of being lazy and not getting out.
I live in the area and have been to the Newseum several times. Once on a field trip with one of my kids but the other times, we found discounted tickets to get in. I doubt they offer that now that it’s closing. Such a shame - so many wonderful and important exhibits. Had I known two years ago that it was closing, I would have spent more time but that was the time I was there with the field trip so was paying more attention to keeping eye on kids than carefully perusing all the exhibits I was interested in. I hope they are able to find another home for it.
Someone mentioned the Spy Museum, which also charges admission. I’ve been to that one twice. That’s a pretty cool museum as well but the Newseum is far better, and more important in this day and age!
