"Next Generation" of College Confidential Here Already? (FALL 2010 Transfers)

what can I say about escondido? They have really good burritos and its cheap rent. Ha. Evan…What is the young democrats club thing that you are a president for? What kind of events or activites does that club do? Are you in the Phi Theta kappa thing for city college? I need to be involved in some clubs. Ha…can you just put my name on the club roster thing? haha. just kidding.

I went to a taping of America’s Got Talent yesterday (and skipped 3 classes in the process >_<)

I knew TV was pretty fake, but I had NO idea how fake.
They make you laugh, look disgusted, and applaud so they can pre-tape everything then plug it in the show.
Best part was the standing ovation. They’d have people with birthdays between Jan-April stand then May-August then Sept-Dec.

Now I know why they pay people to attend the shows. So tiring!

Rwsako- Add me on Facebook. You can find me in the College Confidential UC transfer group. [College Confidential UC Transfers- 2010 | Facebook](Redirecting...)

There isn’t a Young Dem’s at City Yet, I was sort of appointed by the regional director to start one, and I am in Phi Theta Kappa. I’m gonna try to be an officer next year (Shows on your transcripts!)

if you guys haven’t seen STAR TREK, watch it–definitely an awesome movie.

Watch Star Trek in IMAX. Never gets old. Most fun movie this year.

erikuh:

I’ve been to a few Jimmy Kimmel and Carson Daly tapings that weren’t THAT fake. They mostly just flashed the applause signs and told us to exaggerate when we laughed.

^ that’s not that bad. I wouldn’t mind going to one of those tapings.
ABDC is another one of the fake shows.

This thread has been awfully quiet. What’s going on with everyone? I’m assuming it’s probably because finals are here. I’m done Thursday!

Finals were done for me last week! I’m in Hawaii now 8)

JUST checked my spring semester grades, and put all my grades (Fall + spring) into a GPA calculator…

3.6 GPA (Cumulative), Anthropology, Lookin’ okay for UCLA (Unintentional rhyme)
[Avg. GPA for Anthro Majors is 3.47 :D]

^ I have a 3.12 coming out of my private university
I’ll raise it by application though.

^
Erika, I’m kind of worried about doing any honors classes. I just feel like it will benefit me for UCLA (TAP), but it may bring my GPA down for CAL. :(

Evan: It will be a good EC to put on your application for Cal. I’d say get your GPA higher with the honors, since the classes aren’t that much more difficult. As long as you dont fall below a 3.5ish… Not sure what the cutoff GPA was for Anthro majors at Cal though.

Erika: You’d probably be auto-admitted to UCLA with a 3.3ish with your TAP anyways.

Finals are creeping up…June 8th, 9th, and 10th for me!

Sephorazn (Sephora Asian? :P) - Does taking an honors course bump your GPA up? Because in my mind, it’s going to be more work, and therefor there is more of a likelihood of a lower grade. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very studious, and I am all about school, but do you know what I mean?

Yeah…I was exactly in the same shoes as you man. It doesn’t “bump” it up like an A+ would bump up your GPA, but it shows on your transcript that you did take {H} level classes. If you are going to end up stacking classes, I’d avoid taking honor classes anyways… Are you aiming to get into Cal? If its just UCLA then TAP is perfect, it’s also accepted at UCI and some other schools (I think Pomona College?).

Does anyone know anything about Pomona College?
I know it’s a highly regarded LAC but that’s about it.

This is particular piques my interest in the school.
“Pomona College, one of the nation’s premier liberal arts colleges, will eliminate loans in financial aid packages and replace those amounts with scholarships, effective 2008-09. The change will apply to both current and future students and was approved by the College’s Board of Trustees on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.”

God Erika- this is a UC transfer thread >:) (you know I’m messing with you)

@Sephora, I don’t know some of the terminology you used. What does Stacking Classes mean? I am aiming to get accepted at Cal, UCLA, and UCSD (I have a TAG with them already).

Evan,

I have a question for you… Why are you on college confidential whilst vacationing in Hawaii? Go eat a pineapple!

Pomona College is a well known LAC that is part of the Claremont Colleges. Although transfers can apply…they only accept a SMALL number of applicants. When I say small, I mean small. Like 20-35 transfers small. I think they accepted a large group (60) last year but reduced the rate back to 20-35 this year. The only reason I’d even think about going to Pomona College is because it’s right behind my house lol

Stacking classes = Taking a lot of units in one semester and aim for straight A’s to up your cumulative GPA for the January update during the application process.
It’s up to you…I mean looking at pickaprof.com, most honor students seem to work hard but most of them get A’s. Your GPA isn’t bad, but it wouldn’t be a shoo-in at Cal (although 4.0’s technically wouldn’t be either).

My dearest Jen,

I have no justification. It’s humid as hell here. I’m going to be rolling out sooner or later 8)
