That was a small taste of what’s available as you head north. Lots to do for outdoorsy types, I just didn’t mention much.

Airfare on Jet Blue from SF area to Tampa runs from $300 in early June to $400 RT towards the end of the month. St. Pete Beach is 1/2 hr. away from airport, taxi runs $50 each way for 2. Lots of options of hotel, motel, condo, etc. on the beach. Plenty of choices for dining casual and grocery stores on the beach. Free beach shuttle from Treasure Island down to Pass a Grill. Lots to see and do, they would not even need a car rental, but local Enterprise, (on the beach) offers very low special weekend fares available only through their beach office. Small hotel efficiency rates are about $125 per night.

Maybe drive over to Lake Tahoe and Reno area for week? Should be able to have some fun with $1800.

My H & I have been on several cruises. I am sort of cruised-out now since we took them each year for like 7 or 8 years in a row. Some are much more enjoyable than others. We flew into Honolulu @ 8 years ago and stayed about 3 days and then boarded the NCL Pride of America cruise that went around to each of the Hawaiian Islands. This cruise was okay, not wonderful, but certainly passable. We LOVED being able to go to each Hawaiian Island while unpacking once on the ship and having all meals included. It went to Maui and docked overnight, so we had plenty of time to explore the island and still get back to the ship each day. It went to Kauai, the Big island and of course Oahu. We took advantage of activities on each island on our own so it wasn’t as expensive as the cruise excursions. For two 20 somethings on a budget, it would probably be fun! We rented cars on each island, something they probably can’t do unless they’re 25. However, usually there are taxi services at the ports to take you where you want to go. So if they are interested in Hawaii AND a cruise, this one may be of interest for them. Good luck!
By the way, on Oahu, we found an excellent food truck near the north shore where the big waves are that served the freshest seafood imaginable! Yummy and very inexpensive!

Update- thanks for all the great ideas. Due to D needing to go to summer session they switched to spring break. After reading reviews and checking prices they have come to the conclusion that 2000 doesn’t buy them much. They have come to the decision to bank that money for another time when they can better afford to take such a trip.
They are going to drive to the central coast of Ca and stay a few days at the vacation rental of a family member. Much more affordable.
Good for them for being practical and not overextending themselves. I hope they have a fun time.
A 50-ish friend of mine is RV-camping in Baja right now. Clear water, dirt cheap, and she’s having a blast. No safety issues.
