Any possible exposure to someone with TB?
No. As mentioned above, I did have a chest x-ray (had a lingering cough) but all clear.
I had mono in my 20’s and had night sweats for 6 months afterward. (Like, get-up-and-change-the-sheets level night sweats - gross!) It can just be a post-viral thing. But definitely good to get a full work-up and make sure there’s nothing being missed!
I have treated people with TB in other parts of their bodies than the lungs. These too can cause night sweats.
I’m 61 and I sweat every night since menopause at age 50. It’s just regular old hot flashes for me. I take the covers off for about 10-15 minutes until I get chilly and then I’m okay for awhile. I rarely get any hot flashes during the day any more, but the nighttime ones have been there for a long time now. Hope your friend is right and that’s all it is for you.
I hope so too. But as mentioned, this is all new for me. I’d likely ignore it if I had a history of hot flashes and night sweats. Anything is possible with hormones I guess so maybe now it is my turn for this post-menopausal issue.
Also, it is curious that is all started when I was dealing with that horrible, lingering virus at the exact same time as the heavy bad news about my mom. All the other symptoms have subsided but these night sweats have stuck around and my anxiety has increased as a result.
One of the screening questions I use for “send back to MD” (I work in healthcare, but I am not a physician) is about night sweats or unexplained weight loss/gain. I have seen “yes” for menopause, any cancer, thyroid or other endocrine issues, and changes from winter to spring with bedding that is too heavy. The fact that you are seeing your doc tomorrow is good. Don’t mentally cross any bridges you don’t have to. Hugs.
I’m not a doctor or in the medical field, I’ll put that out up front. I hope at the next visit your doctor finds out what’s going on or gets closer to the answer. The issue we all have as non-doctors is we can’t evaluate how good a job our doctor is doing. If this remains a puzzle then you might want to consider requesting a referral to a teaching hospital for a second opinion.
No medical help here, but I’ve suffered through hot flashes and now I”m a “hot sleeper”. The only thing I’ve found that helps is the Rest Comforter, keeping the room at 67 degrees (I prefer 65 but hubby and DD won’t stand for it), having a fan blowing directly on me (which also ccools the comforter), and very light pajamas. I’m freezing when I get into bed, but I sleep through the night. (Added bonus, sleeping at this temp is good for brain health).
I have my heat no higher than 64 at night and prefer around 62 - plus the window open - and I still wake up hot. No sweating especially though. I do wear warm pjs and have two cotton blankets and a quilt (no comforter). But as far as I remember I’ve always slept warm. Summer is miserable now that our summers get hot at least in July - but I hate air conditioning so it’s an issue. I can’t sleep when it’s over 70 at night.
I don’t want to add to the alarm, but I am glad you have an appointment today to discuss further.
I had a good visit with my doctor today and she did order a bunch of labs to (hopefully) rule out more things, etc. Hope to have results soon - have a follow-up with her Friday to discuss. It is likely results show up in my portal prior to Friday though.
Well done on getting to the doctor. Nice that there will be quick follow-up, hopefully with a good reports so less to stress over for self (but sending hugs to you as you help with the family health issues)
