Nirvana Vs. Metallica

I only like a few Nirvana songs so I’m going to have to go with Metallica.

Oh, Lealdragon. I couldn’t disagree with you more regarding Nirvana!
Nirvana: 12
Metallica:5

Nirvana: 11.5
Metallica: 4

I subtract one from both, because both aren’t that great. Nirvana is better, though. I’ll actually make that a .5 deduction. I really hate Metallica. Their name is the best part of their band. That speaks to their quality.

I think Nirvana was a good band. I just don’t think they ‘changed rock music forever’ the way the critics say. Sure, they had soul (or maybe ‘angst’ is a better word). But it’s not like they did something totally innovative. They didn’t use totally new techniques or instruments and their music wasn’t in a league all its own with nothing to compare. Actually very few bands could be said to be truly innovative, imo. (Pink Floyd comes to mind for obvious reasons.) Anyway I’m not saying they’re not good or even great. I just don’t think they were all that unique.

But, it’s all subjective.

I suspect Metallica isn’t getting very many votes because there aren’t many metalheads on this forum.

Perhaps the most “innovative” thing Nirvana did was launch that whole MTV: Unplugged franchise. Moth-eaten wool sweater, anyone? But I love em anyways!

You don’t really need to be a metal-head to enjoy metallica’s music, their later albums (post black-album) are not really trash-metal.

The Black album was their last perfect album, imo. Their later stuff had some moments of genius but overall was not really up to Metallica’s standards. I did admire their willingness to do something different.

Nirvana: 12
Metallica: 6

Metallica for the win.

I meant musically.

Well, yes, I know. But I was just trying to illustrate a point. They didn’t do anything really different.

Metal, as a whole, is an absolutely massive genre and Metallica is pretty much the biggest metal band. Do people even play grunge anymore?

Black Album: 14 million sold.

Nevermind: 10 million sold.

Metallica wins this be a long shot.

No ****ing way

This is biased because I don’t care for Metallica that much but still… NIRVANA !
Cobain’s death did help their popularity but they are still the #1 Grunge band ever. Alice in Chains follows shortly.
