NIssan Murano- "intelligent keys"

With the newer Nissans you don’t have to program the Bluetooth anymore. I have a 2010 Maxima. When you buy the car you do the initial “search” to link the car with your phone. From taht point on when you get into the car your phones contact list automatically gets uploaded to the car. And the entire list is available for voice commands.

I love mine.

all these cars that make more and more things electronic can be hacked and driven from afar… just fyi

Memphis Guy - mine is the same, I think. I was just somewhat challenged in getting the bluetooth to recognize my phone (had no prob with my earbud way back when, but did with the car) and then had to voice train it a bit.

Hmmmmm. hacked and driven from afar… like with an empty driver’s seat ?

They all seem to have SOMEthing. Looked at a Chevy Equinox today and the salesman went overboard trying to seel me on On*Star. Am sure it’s a very good service, but I’m losing track of which techy extras comes with which car… The two ‘luxuries’ I’d like most are a roof rack and an adjustable power seat, but unfortunately they rarely come on the base model, and end up bumping you into the higher priced package with a whole bunch of other stuff I don’t need or want…

For a roof rack, you can check to see if aftermarket rack companies like Yakima and Thule offer racks for the vehicle. If the higher model comes with side rails but the lower model does not, you may want to check if the side rails are available from the parts counter and can be easily installed on the lower model.

We’ve had a Murano for 6 years. I think the remote is very convenient for me just because it never leaves my purse. My husband used to be the primary driver of the car. One day I drove the car and left the key fob in my jeans. Of course I wound up washing the pants without checking the pockets (shock)! Needless to say we are still functioning with only 1 fob because I’m not going to pay 300-$400 for a new one! BTW I have never notice the blind spot issue. I’m 5’4’’ and love the fact the the foot pedals are adjustable. Also it is great in the snow!

Interesting. It’s a bit over my head, but it seemed to relate more to cars with onboard cellular systems rather than intelligent keys. Anyway, forewarned and all that, but I’m not gonna worry about it:

I’ll worry about who’s gonna win American Idol and Top Chef Masters instead :).

Here’s a good comparison of blind spots on today’s most popular small SUVs. The Nissan Murano is not in the test - although its little sister the Rogue scored the lowest of all models tested with a grade of D.

I’ve just taken my mother to urgent care twice this week after she cut her leg so badly that she needed 15+ stitches- ( 2 separate episodes) - due to a sharp corner on the driver side door of her new 2011 Murano. I’m wondering if other Muranos have this or if hers is defective?

I highly recommend you take a long test drive in the Murano before you sign any papers. Check your vision through the rear window when backing up. Check your side vision when switching lanes. Try to park it.

My mom’s Toyota Venza has these types of keys, and I gotta tell you they certainly make life so much easier. I found it to be very nice not to have to shuffle around in my pocket to unlock it.

My mom also had a 2003 Murano, back before these intelligent keys were popular. It was a good solid car, except I did not like the accelerator pedal. It was to punchy, as if the spring in it was too hard. It also leaked oil like an SOB but I’m sure that problem has been addressed in the more recent models.
