@JBStillFlying, Thank you for the clarification. DD is 1550 in SAT (232 NMSC) which should put her well above 211. Phew!
Yes FL resident. But it almost went through for all.!!!
Thanks for everybody posting, including those whose kiddos didn’t claim the prize. Unfortunately, my son also will not be claiming NMSF. I was worried about scores going up this year, so I downplayed it, and tried to keep him out of my drama ;-)…And to those that did make it, CONGRATS! Is so awesome to see the happy dancing parents (as well as the students on this board). And I hope all goes well for those still waiting on the ledge!
Mom2Son - definitely. It’s only one test of many.
If the info is supposed to remain confidential, are the kids allowed to list it on an application and submit before 9/13?
If the application submission doeesn’t affect housing queue or anything like that there is no harm in waiting till press release day and might even ward off confusion. Make sure, as well, to reach out to the NMF liaison at the uni.
Per Art, MN now at <= 220.
Can anybody confirm MN <= 220?
It will affect housing at UF, but I guess he can wait.
@Northernwolf I just pm’d you.
Still nothing heard in Wisconsin
Yes, we plan to wait until after the official announcement to submit D’s apps, except UNM which is already in. We’ll contact them with the news that date as well.
@jprtaco if it affects housing then sending along with notification shouldn’t hurt - just explain how you found out and add that specific public confirmation will be forthcoming. Or send the app. now and contact admissions and the NMF liaison in mid-September. Keeping the news under wraps, assuming that’s what you have been asked, usually refers to no social media posts before the school gets a chance to do their own PR. As your info. to the college is confidential anyway, you really wouldn’t be violating anything by informing your colleges at this time.
This is my question; why the secrecy? If the college counselor has the information and lets the student know, why “do NOT tell anyone until the 13th”? What is the big deal?
@amominaz I agree. The whole thing seems silly and a little insensitive. NM should just send an email notification to students who make it or publish a list online; that way everyone has access at the same time. A friend of mine who homeschools got the notification yesterday (so it took, what, 8 days to arrive?). For traditional students in schools, if it’s the student who makes the cut, why is the school the one notified? It’s not the school that made the cut. The middle man thing means that there is broad inconsistency in notifications. And means that kids who are stressed out are more stressed out. My son is completely UNstressed (and hasn’t even registered that NMSF is imminent) but I know parents whose kids are freaking out b/c a neighbor got notified and they haven’t been.
@amominaz - They don’t want schools releasing news to the press piecemeal so have chosen a specific day that’s far out enough basically to ensure that 100% of schools have been contacted with and have had time to review the information (including schools overseas). They don’t tell the schools not to tell the kids and their families - that’s the particular spin that the school places on the information share, either because they’ve misunderstood the rules, or because they don’t want to bother opening up anything prior to the PR date (since there’s not much they can do publicly till then). Schools that ask the families to keep it under wraps don’t want stuff going out over social media (because we all know that’s far more effective than a PR). They don’t really care if you contact grandma with the good news and I’d imagine most GC’s have no objection to the kids notifying their colleges as that’s a “need to know” circumstance.
They could set up technology and have schools log-on to a portal to get the info, but that would probably be in Sept. as well. This way might unfold in slo-mo, but keep in mind we aren’t even up to Labor Day yet. Many school districts in MN, for instance, aren’t even in session till next Tues.
@amominaz … I agree ! D is an international student, and we have no news yet … I wish they would just release it online, at the same time :((
@contdes - NMSC depends on the schools to administer the test. It’s not like the SAT - at least for NM purposes.
@Punky99 For international, if you have 223 or higher you are safe. International cutoff is the highest - which is NJ at max 223 (maybe 222 - that is still unknown).
Just received the notification letter from my kid’s school. So this is additional confirmation that TN <= 219.
