NMS cutoff predictions for class of 2018

@3lovingmom like PSAT they use the SI for SAT confirming score. But lowest SI possible for 1510 is a 222. Well above 211 level so should definitely be fine.

@TexanIndian Thanks so much! We haven’t heard any from school yet about Semifinalist. They took ACT(both 35) for college admission and didn’t practice SAT and took it because the state required the all students to. He says his PSAT score doesn’t seem to match with SAT score and probably has to take SAT again but doesn’t want to. Anyway, I’ll tell him it’s okay to keep this score. Thanks again.

edit : ** ignore me! I was having comprehension failure **

@3lovingmom Have they already taken the SAT? Or just the PSAT last October? They may be able to access their SI for their PSAT (via the website). At the very least they’d be able to access their section scores and we can show you how to calculate SI.

@snowfairy137 Ohhhh I was getting muddled up thinking the ‘administered by the state’ was the PSAT. Ignore me!

I’m sad that Art’s blog post won’t open for me anymore, but it’s just gotten too large for my mobile devices. I don’t think we’re getting newer info that he doesn’t have though, so the CC cutoffs thread is sadly out of date but anyone with either a “real” computer or just better mobile devices than mine can still get the latest news from Art.

As per OU, they have gone from a top 2 to not on my list of possibilities.

@3lovingmom - this has probably already been answered sufficiently for you but the reason NMSC requires a “confirming score” via SAT in the first place is to guard against flukes and frauds; therefore, they set some minimum threshold that is usually around the commended cutoff (as that number is usually a cutoff in a state or two) or even a bit lower. They do NOT require that someone’s SAT match his/her PSAT score. The confirming score is the same number for everyone. Obviously, your kids’s SAT scores - when translated to an SI - are well above this minimum threshold. Congrats to them!

@JBStillFlying Thanks so much for making it clear. Well, it’s obviously the time to apply for the colleges. So hard to have two at the same time.

@3lovingmom - the outcome looks to be very promising for your two given their stats. Maybe thinking about that will lessen the difficulty in the months ahead.

@JBStillFlying we sent twins to college four years ago. It is a crazy time but good to see them both become successful. Best of luck!

@JBStillFlying at least you don’t have triplets! I’m friends with 2 trios who are applying this year.

Just to be clear, we had three in a row (D’s 15 - 17) but not twins and can’t even imagine triplets! (we too have friends who will be there in a couple of years’ time).

@3lovingmom’s the one who’s in for six months of crazy. We get a break this year thankfully!

I thought my boy was ready to hit “Submit” on Common App; ALAS! His AP Lit teacher is going to “look over” her students’ Common App essays in class next week. So we wait.
I.Was.So.Ready. ARGGGGG.

S18 got his NMSF letter last week. I’m wondering what sort of benefit this is in terms of admissions (not scholarship per se). Most of the schools S is looking at don’t have NMF scholarships, so that part isn’t very helpful to us. Will including NMSF on applications make any difference (I mean, we will put it on there, of course, but I’m wondering what sort of value it has other than $$$ at some schools).

I’ve been waiting for the better part of a year, so I’m not celebrating until we get official verification in MA. No reason to doubt the reporter, but I don’t believe it’s possible that MA is the only state that remained unchanged.

What is the benefit (other than knowing you are done) to submitting this early? Rolling admissions? Do they read apps as they come in? Do they read apps before transcripts and letters of recommendation are done? I feel we are so behind!

@Yas2022 , yes, rolling admissions; his transcripts and LoR have been ready for a while. It varies by high school, though, so don’t despair! I just learned from 2015 daughter to get on the ball early, early, early. 2018 son asked his recommenders back in late April/early May 2017.

LoR was requested in April as well. How do you know if they are finished? Are you using Naviance?

Nope, our school doesn’t use Naviance. The recommenders let my boy know. He waived his right to read the letters, though.
