No Education Major?

There is an Early Childhood Education major, although the web site has very little information on it:

[School of Education | University of Massachusetts Amherst](http://www.umass.edu/education/licensure/edinfo/ecemajor.shtml)

As I understand it, for education in general, to become a teacher in MA, for elementary ed you typically have to major in a subject area as outlined in this document (http://www.umass.edu/education/licensure/edinfo/eio_pdfs/Elementary%20Education/elementarymajors.pdf</a>) , and then meet the licensure requirements to become a teacher.

For middle and high school, you have to major in the subject area you want to teach in, and then meet the requirements.

So the school of education is mostly at the graduate level to get you through the licensing.
