No Interviews = Rejection

Sorry that I misunderstood before. It looks like you did everything possible, but for some reason, the alum interviewer just could not come through. That is unfortunate, but I truly doubt that that ended your chances for admission. Harvard says that it does not count lack of interviews against students. I have never seen H lie about admissions.

It may be that that alum literally is the only H alum anywhere in your area who is available to conduct interviews. Unfortunately, if that person is too busy to do them, there aren’t other alternatives.

It’s great that you had a good experience with Princeton. I am impressed by what that individual did, which went far above what most alum interviewers would have the time or patience to do.

“when i called back, he said himself there he was to busy planning for his vacation…not interviews…what do you think about that?”

I think that it’s too bad that he promised something that he obviously did not have the time to deliver. I am wondering, however, whether he was in that position because there simply is no one else in your wide area who is available to be an alum interviewer for H. Unfortunately, when organizations have to rely on volunteers to do things, the organizations end up with whomever is willing to help out.

I looked back at some of your earlier posts about your H and P interviews.

I want to emphasize that I’m sorry that the Harvard alum let you down. That’s not the way alum interviewers are supposed to act.

I also want to say that I continue to be impressed by the fact that apparently you have had to live on your own some time when your parents are out of the country. I hope that you emphasized this in your essays and interviews because it demonstrates an unusual level of maturity and independence for a high school student.

I am sorry to not know you in person because you sound like a very interesting young man , and I agree with you that you probably do a good interview!

What other options do you have for college?

Thank you, Northstarmom. I hold no grudge against Harvard or its alum, because I know that there are both intelligent and reasonable people, such as yourself, who have graduated from or are currently attending there.

whatever the reason may be that caused my rejection…i wish to find out in order to either prevent it from happening again or improve myself to become a better candidate next year…if it be because of the lack of an interview…I will make sure that I get one as a transferring applicant (if interviews are offered).

This year, however, I feel like I have a trump card that never got played…but I know now that there’s no use in making a fuss about the past. Instead, working even harder to meet Harvard’s standard will help me whether I ever get accepted or not…

Fortunately, I got accepted into the honor program for my state’s university…so I guess it’s not as bad as I feared…As for Princeton, I don’t want to set my hope too high again because the disappointment is greater that way…I applied to 4 colleges (only 2 ivies), though I was strongly passionate only in Harvard and rested my soul on that…I guess the most likely college that I will be attending this year is the State’s…

I will be back Harvard! because I still love you… :(

“I guess the most likely college that I will be attending this year is the State’s…”

If you don’t get into Princeton, the U is a nice school with some excellent academic programs an amazing number of interesting ECs. The Twin Cities have lots of cultural and other offerings.

Remember, there’s always Harvard for grad school.

Best of luck as you await your future. :)

now that you said it, the U doesn’t seem so bad…i guess i’m not so depressed anymore, Thank you! I’ll definitely try for Harvard grad…whether I get into Harvard undergrad or not…

I didn’t have an interview, and I was rejected, though I am not so arrogant as to automatically assume that that was the reason for my rejection. (By this, I have no intention of accusing anyone of arrogance.) I have also heard of the rumor that applicants who have not had interviews are rejected from Harvard, and I admit that I have yet to find an exception to this hypothetical rule.
