Interestingly, Scottish universities have free tuition for residents of Scotland AND the rest of the EU, but not for British students living outside of Scotland, who I imagine pay the same rates as at other UK universities. I suppose it’s a reciprocity thing as Scottish students studying outside their region would pay normal UK rates.

I know this because my D applied and was accepted to two Scottish Unis from another EU country. It was tough to give up that deal, but she will be heading to the States for college as always planned. I know both those schools have a significant percentage of high-paying Americans attending, but the tuition for them is still less than your average U.S. private U.

^ is this a dig at the british education system? if so, you are ignorant, small-minded, rude and obnoxious. if not, what do you mean?

MidwestMom, not to be insulting to the school you mention, but most British students would not want to get an education at an entirely unknown school in the US for the same price as they could pay to go to Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Bristol, Exeter etc, simply because it would make life harder for them after leaving.

I’ll be attending UVA in the fall, and my A levels are only giving me, I think, 9 or 12 credits.

In the case of public institutions, you pay a certain amount as does the state (excluding scholarships and financial aid). So you may very well get more than what you pay for at public institutions.

I thought the point of the thread was that there was not room for 50,000 of these students at these schools. If a British student has the opportunity to go to Oxford, Cambridge, etc, of course she should.
