Nocturnal Leg Cramps: a solution?

I take 400 mg of magnesium oxide with no side effects. As a far-past menopause woman, I also found that I am now pretty sensitive to soy – it seems to be generating feet cramps and hot flashes, so no more veggies burgers for me.

My SIL takes 800 mg of magnesium for migraines, btw. Has worked wonders for her. As in all things body chemitry, ymmv

I take Endurolytes, which are electrolyte replacement capsules.

Yep, add me to the magnesium group. If I’m doing hot yoga I’ll sweat out so many electrolytes that I can (and do) cramp up afterwards. I’ll take a magnesium pill in the morning (and drink a lot of water) to prevent it. Works great on headaches, too. I never take more than the recommended daily amount, though.

Another who swears by magnesium. My rheumatologist suggested it and I saw a difference pretty quickly.

I take magnesium citrate. 2 400 mg tablets. Yes, they’re horse pills.

This is what I said earlier in the thread. Those estrogen-like compounds and estrogen supplements can have this as a side effect. Many women just do not realize that muscle cramps can be a side effect of their meds and attribute them to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, etc.

Standard rolaids are cal mag, if you are looking for chewy over swallow. Just adjust your other cal supplements if you don’t want too much calcium.

I looked at my bottle-250 mg magnesium oxide, 63% of the rda. Not a horse pill, just regular size. I figure I’m probably getting enough for the rest in my daily food intake because I eat a lot of dark leafy greens and yogurt.

I also find that if I’m super stressed out, taking a magnesium pill at the end of the day helps me to sleep better. I suspect this may be a placebo effect, though. Which is totally legit, lol. My body is happy to go along with it.

MOD, magnesium is a folk sleep remedy, apparently.

I used to get terrible foot cramps at night. BIL (a doctor) recommended “a banana a day” … and it has really worked. Sometimes I skip a few days and the foot cramps come back.
