Certain cadets are eligible for specific ones.
Everyone is eligible for Ea. Sen and Cong if they have openings. Also available for the Golden ticket VP (someone may correct me if I am wrong, but VP is allowed the same # = 5 at the acad at 1x).
Military children and retired military children can get a pres. There are unlimited #'s given out, but only 100 that can be appointed, that is why they apply for all of them. Yes, it is possible for them to have 4 noms. It is also poss. for them to only get the pres. Many MOC’s see that they have the nom and will not consider them for moc, rare but it does happen
The Scretary of Defense is allowed ( 85 ? )…I have been told from an old post these are held for active duty, makes sense the pres is for dep. not active
The Secretary of the “Insert Service Branch” also is allowed to nom. Again, I believe it is for AD only…might be wrong!
There is also honor ROTC, don’t know the numbers for that
The academies can also appoint directly from their own pool.

Now who goes…
The principal nom must be accepted by law.
Many MOC’s do not give a “rack and stack” and leave it to the acad. to determine. Thus, even if you have the nom, only 1 can go from that 10, unless they have another nom who can use i.e. pres. or another MOC

In the end that is why the more noms the more chances for an acceptance.

I would also look at the website for last years accp. breakdown…GPA, SAT, ACT, etc. it can at least help you see where you are standing.

Let’s say you have an LOA for sports, get a nom, but you might actually get your appt. from Super b/c they moved it around to get another student in from that MOC, not saying yo aren’t worth the MOC, but in the end of the day, the appt is more important than where the nom came from. It’s about getting the best class in giving the acad freedom to get it done.

Hope this helps
