Haverford Men’s Soccer is very strong, and they have generally had good cross country as well. It is not an overwhelmingly sporty environment, but given how small a LAC it is, there are going to be plenty of kids who do play Varsity sports.
I figured it was probably the case that Williams’ “sporty” reputation was a bit overblown/reductionist. After all, the word has different meanings, and being outdoorsy and fitness-oriented is different from favoring organized sports as a common pasttime.
I’d also suspect that many sports-uninterested students would also probably be fine at Lafayette, Lehigh, or Bucknell. Or, for that matter, a place like Michigan or Penn State. The thing is, most schools - big and small - have diverse student bodies with students with many interests, where a student can find her niche and thrive. Or maybe the sports culture is one thing they dislike but not a deal-breaker, and there are other things that just wow the student.
