Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Why?

We are still hanging on the hope for tonight or tomorrow.

Hate to say it but
at a certain point you’re just driving yourself crazy. Everyone needs to breathe and take a step back
ESPECIALLY if you’re the parent being watched by the kid. My Grandma used to say, “watching a pot doesn’t make it boil any faster.” And she’s right. Good luck with admission AND patience!

It will be tonight. I just got an email. I am guessing 7 pm EST. The email was sent at 5:30 and said 'later tonight."

Are you serious? Can you show us the email?

We are writing to inform you that we plan to release Early Decision I admission decisions later this evening. ED I applicants will receive an email informing them that their decision is available to be viewed through their Application Status Check.

This notification is a courtesy to allow you to prepare to counsel students tomorrow about decisions being released tonight.
Admission Decisions
We received more than 3,400 applications this year from a competitive and diverse pool of applicants. Students who applied for ED I will receive one of the following admission decisions:

  • Admission to the Northeastern University Boston campus
  • Admission to the Northeastern University Oakland campus
  • Admission to The N.U.in Program
  • Admission to the London Scholars program
  • Admission to the Global Scholars program
  • Admission through NU Immerse
  • The option to defer to Early Decision II or Regular Decision
  • Deny

As a reminder, Early Decision applicants are committed to enroll if they are admitted into the program they had indicated as a top preference on their application. Additionally, ED applicants who selected “open to all opportunities” as their first preference and were admitted will be committed to enroll in the program they were admitted to. The deposit deadline for committed students is January 15. ED applicants admitted into a program that was not their top preference are released from the Early Decision commitment and have until May 1 to make their enrollment deposit. All applicants were asked for their program preferences in the institution-specific section of the application.

We have offered admission to Northeastern’s Boston campus to more than 1,470 students. We have offered admission to Northeastern’s Oakland campusto approximately 160 students. These students will spend the first year at our Oakland campus and have the opportunity to decide if they wish to complete their degree in the Bay Area or transition to our Boston campus in their second year.

In addition, we have offered admission through The N.U.in Program to more than 480 students. In this one-semester global program, students spend the fall abroad at a partner institution and join the Boston campus in January. N.U.in location selection will take place in February. We have offered admission to the London Scholars program to approximately 145 students. London Scholars will spend their first year studying at Northeastern’s London campus. During the second year of study, they will transition to Northeastern’s Boston campus—though some may have the option to choose to complete their degree at NU London. We have offered admission through Global Scholars to more than 75 students. Students admitted to this program journey together as a cohort, spending a semester at Northeastern’s London campus and a semester at Northeastern’s Oakland campus in their first year. We will notify students of their starting program location in mid-May. Location sequence is based on a student’s major and age, as well as the capacity of each location. During their second year and beyond, Global Scholars study on Northeastern’s Boston campus and have the opportunity to continue exploring our other global program offerings.

Finally, we have offered admission through NU Immerse to 70 students to begin their college journey with the support and guidance needed to succeed. NU Immerse is a distinctive first-year university experience for non-native English-speaking students who are looking for an advanced English language program built on a foundation of rigorous academics. On the Boston campus, students will benefit from robust academics and acculturation support. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared to fully matriculate into their chosen degree program of study.

Deferred students will be required to indicate whether they would like to accept their spot in either the Early Decision II or the Regular Decision pool or whether they would like to withdraw their application. Students will need to decide prior to January 15. Our goal is to empower students to make an active choice in their deferral and to help students who have already made an enrollment choice to withdraw from our applicant pool. Deferred applicants should send mid-year grades when they become available. Students are also welcome to submit a letter of interest or an updated résumé, which can be uploaded to the Application Status Check after January 1.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
Academic scholarships and need-based financial aid awards (for those students who completed the financial aid application process, including the CSS Profile) will be released simultaneously with an admission decision. We continue to meet the full demonstrated need (based on FAFSA and CSS Profile information) for all admitted students who are eligible for federal aid. Should one of your applicants have a question about their need-based award, they should contact our Student Financial Services office at +1.617.373.3190.

The Northeastern Admissions team is eager to assist you and your students throughout this process. If you have any questions about Early Decision or decision release, please call us at +1.617.373.2200 or send an email to admissions@northeastern.edu. For those with additional applicants this year, the Admissions team is continuing to review the 56,000+ Early Action applications received and will release those decisions by February 15.

Northeastern has never done that before.

Edit: He is a school counselor. They routinely notify them early on decision day.

It’s not. I wouldn’t do that. But I regret contributing already.

Did you write them an email and they sent this back to you?

Your initial post was minimal and sounded like what some tricksters have done in the past.

So it’s for real?

Not 100% sure but I doubt if someone would write such an extensive email just for kicks.

That would be a serious waste of my time. I have a number of ED applicants to NE and thought I would share what I got from them. I rarely contribute because it is so often unpleasant! I don’t think that they would email all named counselors and then not release.
