Usually NMF replaces any other merit scholarships BAS per their statement, but in the last couple of years people have mentioned getting an additional $2-5k added to their package. That could be on top of need based aid, I don’t know. I would not expect it to to stack.
May I ask how much the connections scholarship is for? There is not much mention of it on their webpage.

ā€œStudents who are admitted to Northeastern and are recognized as National Merit Finalists* or National Recognition Program Scholars** will receive a competitive merit-based award and may also be eligible for financial aid.

Northeastern National Scholarships replace any Honors, Dean’s, Connections, Sophomore Achievement, International Scholars, or other merit awards and may result in a change to previously awarded Northeastern University Grant funds.ā€

My daughter got into Comp Sci and Behavioral Neuroscience in Boston.

Our son was admitted to London Scholars program for Fall 2024. We are very excited about the possibility. But we don’t know much about this program and have the same questions/concerns as you have. Thank you @Meri23 for sharing your daughter’s first year experience in London. That’s very helpful information.
FYI here is another article I read online about the pros and cons of studying abroad in the first year.

Northeastern University London is a British university operating in the English tradition. My understanding is that all English universities have less structured courses compared to North American universities.

I have read in the past about students’ experiences with NU In and integrating to the Boston campus. There was a high correlation between enjoying the NU In experience abroad and ease of integration to Boston.

Our son got deferred to the regular decision group. Does this generally mean that if he does get in, Northeastern won’t be offering any scholarship money? Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks!

According to the web search results, Northeastern offers a variety of merit scholarships for incoming undergraduate students, such as the Northeastern National Scholarships, the Ujima Global Leaders Program, the Torch Scholars Program, and the Stamps Scholars Program. All students are automatically considered for scholarships at the time of admission, based on their academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and other factors(Merit Scholarships | Undergraduate Admissions).

Being deferred from Early Action to Regular Decision does not change your son’s eligibility for scholarships or need-based aid. He will still be considered for scholarships along with the Regular Decision applicants, and he will receive his scholarship and financial aid information along with his admission decision by April 1(https://admissions.northeastern.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/FA21-Early-Decision-I-Deferral-FAQ.pdf)(https://admissions.northeastern.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/FA23-Early-Action-Deferral-FAQ.pdf).

However, being deferred does mean that your son will face more competition for scholarships, as the Regular Decision pool is larger and more diverse than the Early Action pool. The amount and availability of scholarships may also vary depending on the number and quality of applicants, the budget and priorities of the university, and the enrollment goals of each college and program(Merit Scholarships | Undergraduate Admissions).

Therefore, being deferred does not necessarily mean that your son will not receive any scholarship money, but it may reduce his chances or amount of receiving one. He may want to consider applying for other scholarships outside of Northeastern, such as the ones listed here or here.

I hope this answers your question. If you need more information, you can visit the Northeastern website(Merit Scholarships | Undergraduate Admissions) or contact the Northeastern Office of Student Financial Services. Good luck with your son’s application!

Thanks. That more than answers my question, lol. We are applying for a variety of scholarships outside of the schools. But it’s good to know that the door isn’t closed on scholarships from Northeastern.

My son was deferred and later admitted with a Dean’s Scholarship (merit), so it happens.

Did your son ever write a letter of continued interest or apply as EDII?

He was elected fencing team captain after he applied and I believe he wrote to all of the colleges he applied to about that. No ED2.

anyone know when ED2 releases?

Anyone here get an admission to Oakland? I’m trying to do research but not coming up with much. Also this acceptance was a complete shock- a classmate with much higher stats was deferred. I’m wondering if the Oakland admits had generally lower stats to encourage acceptance?

I would say yes that is our experience at my kids’ school. We get several in to Northeastern every year but almost no one gets in to Boston. This year we had several EA accepted to Oakland or other alternate pathways but the highest stat student who applied was deferred to Boston.

Today or next week (Wednesday-Friday)

98,000+ applicants means a whole lot of kids with the right credentials and if there are a lot from your state/region/high school then those become your ā€competitionā€ so to speak. NE is high on geographical diversity.

There were only three acceptances at my son’s school out of 30 that applied. My son got Boston, his friend got Oakley and the other got London. I think admissions this year for all the schools are a bit of a mystery. I’m wishing the best for your daughter to get in for RD with merit.

Do we think ed II will come out this week or next? I’m not sure when it has come out in the past

Hello, I just recieved my ā€œtentativeā€ financial aid award. So far, its looking pretty good, and like I can actually afford to go to Northeastern. Does anyone know exactly how ā€œtentativeā€ it is. Could my FAFSA info make the award worse or lower?

At this point all college financial aid offers are tentative due to the confusion about the new FAFSA. Northeastern bases its award primarily on the CSS information. FAFSA determines eligibility for Pell grants and subsidized loans.
