Your global scholars number is way off. This year there are about 1200 freshmen global scholars
Could be. Last year when they added Mills to the Global Scholar program, fewer than 850 combined matriculated under that program. It used to be about 700. But now theyâve incorporated a 4 year program at Mills with the resultant fewer seats available for GS. If you believe NU they state there will fewer than 850 combined with London, not 1200.
Looking at some of the estimates on numbers above in regards to acceptances and yield in Oakland. How do you think they are managing the yield in Oakland? I would think there is a slim margin for error with limited space but also ensuring that the campus is as full as it can be with it being so small to begin with?
what is the percentage of people who got deferred in EA get accepted in RD?
Anyone here have a good understanding of the housing for the Boston campus? I checked out the NU website and it looks like freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. Is anyone guaranteed housing all four years, or are students on their own junior and senior years?
NU used to offer guaranteed housing for all four years but I think in the last few years, it has been changed to only guaranteeing housing for the first two years due to a couple of years that had really high yields and got a bit overwhelming. They have always required you to live in campus housing the first two years however.
Some years, like covid or the most recent high yield year (fall 2022?) they made it easier to get waivers to move off campus sophomore year, but i think they have tightened that back up again, the city of Boston requires all colleges to manage their provide more and student housing well to limit housing rental impacts for their general community. Even now, NU has more forced doubles and triples to provide more student housing.
Yet the City of Boston is dragging its feet on approving Northeasternâs proposed 1370 student dorm on Tremont St.
There are students who choose to stay on campus for 4 years. My son, like many, got an apartment with friends for the last two years. There are a number of apartments within a ten minute walk of campus and Mission Hill is a popular student neighborhood a little further away. He learned how to cook and prefers that to the dining hall food.
When does Northeastern start releasing their decision waves?
Do you mind sharing how much you received versus how much you expected? I know it varies greatly by income, but we are holding our breath here regarding whether NEU will be affordable for my daughter. We initially thought it was out of reach, but she received a great merit scholarship and after reading your post, I am hopeful we may get some FA based on CSS as well. Unfortunately a document was missing and we had to resubmit Friday. I hope to hear soon!
Did you run the NPC before applying? That is usually a fairly accurate indication of aid so long as you donât own your own business or are divorced. If you did, and your aid ends up being far off from the NPC, Iâd call FA. Hoping it works out for you!
We are paying exactly what the NPC said. Like within $100 for our twins. One got more money from institutional aid and some merit, other got less institutional aid more merit. Their total cost is almost exactly the same. We were very pleasantly surprised by 2nd daughter. One of them is a recruited athlete so we knew her cost. I just did not expect my 2nd daughter to get so much merit aid. Now she has to decide on Northeastern or WPI. Northeastern will be $15k a year cheaper than WPI.
Please delete.
Gotcha, thanks! Sounds like theyâre trying to get the financial aid packages out by end of February. Good luck to your girls!
I did. Iâm hoping it will be close, but as you noted, I am divorced, remarried, and have my own business. Iâm just happy to hear people are getting financial aid based on CSS and not FAFSA with delay!
Thank you both.
My D24 was accepted to London Scholars âBehavioral Neuro + Philosophyâ. On her admit portal, itâs letting her change the major to almost any major. She submitted a change for CS+Neuro and it seems to have gone through with the acceptance letter updated in real time. Anyone have experience with this? Does this mean the change is done?
my friend did that in the ED cycle and yes it means itâs changed, Northeastern is really easy with switching majors.
are decisions coming out tomorrow?
Iâd guess sometime this week
Do we think ED2 is coming out today?
