Northeastern + Marymount Manhattan College Merger

Looking for information on the Northeastern University merger with Marymount Manhattan College. Anything know. Beyond the press release that is almost a year old? What is the actual timeline? What does having two schools on one campus look like for the fall? Seems unfair to the MMC enrolled students? What will REALLY happen with merit/honors/majors/transfers?

I live near MMC and so far there are no changes to the signs on the building. From the outside, you would never know that Northeastern is taking over in the fall.

I’ve seen a couple of tours walking around the neighborhood (the campus is just a few buildings on East 71st and 72nd Streets) which are being led by students with MMC nametags.

I will be curious to see how this goes. For the most part, the MMC students are an artsy bunch, which doesn’t jibe with my understanding of NEU’s student body or mission.

Thanks, but are they taking over in the fall? Is this the last year (2025) MMC will issue diplomas? I don’t want to send my student anywhere without knowing all the facts and right now it doesn’t feel like I have them. the last press release was May 2024 and while NU-NYC is definitely a thing, what happens to the “other” kids who are new in the fall?

I would contact the school directly and pose your questions.

I don’t have the answers to your questions. As @happy1 suggests, I would contact the school directly. The admissions office is probably a good place to start. I took a quick look at this page on MMC’s site, and from what I read, they haven’t announced a formal date for the integration. MMC and Northeastern • About Us • Marymount Manhattan College

I’m doing that as well, but there are always more to it than that. I was hoping someone might have more insight.

Northeastern and MMC are awaiting New York State approval of the merger. Until that happens. MMC is still a separate institution. The last I heard was that final state approval was expected this Spring. But in dealing with the government, nothing is certain.

Unlike the Northeastern/Mills College merger, there is no organized opposition from alumni and students.

Thanks for the update!

So is the Federal approval complete? I keep hearing “spring”, and I suspect (if it follows the Mills timeline) that it will close in June-ish.

It’s just a lot of unknowns to make a decision by May 1.

Is it the Dept of Education which grants these approvals?

No word on federal approval yet but I see how that could now be an issue.

In the case of state approval, with Mills, California had to review and approve every degree program that Northeastern planned to offer in Oakland, even if the program was fully approved in Massachusetts.

Feeling like too much uncertainty and they have not returned my call or email. Kid has many great choices and doesn’t really do uncertainty well.
