Prior to test optional, I am aware that a number of schools offered programs that allowed students who just missed the cut (call it the next 500 or maybe more at Northeastern) to still end up at the college. The flavors of these programs are all different, but each allows students to be omitted from fall semester published stats. The reason I mention “prior to test optional” was that lower SAT’s were a very common reason a student ended up being admitted to one of the programs. @Data10 might have real stats on these alternate fall semester or longer options, but my impression is that these students are just a bit less strong overall.
Regarding NUin, I know one person in the program now and another just admitted and each was a reasonably strong applicant.
